Spectrum has been serving Colorado for over 40 years in residential settings, Day Program, community and in-home support, and community integrated employment.
Position: Day Program Staff for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
Status: Part Time

Location: Spectrum Day Program and Academy, Lakewood, CO 80227
Position Overview: As a member of the Day Program team, you have the incredible opportunity to serve an amazing population with intellectual and developmental disabilities and make a real difference in their lives. You get to help participants meet their goals, learn new skills, brighten their day, and in turn your own! You will be providing care by ensuring everyone's health and safety while empowering them to get the most out of their day.
Spectrum offers people within the I/DD population several different settings to enrich their daily lives and improve their adaptive learning skills. Our day-program is a safe space for participants to work on individualized skills, grow, and interact with their peers. To foster further engagement, community outings provide an environment to practice safety skills, inclusion, and much more. Finally, our Spectrum Academy focuses on smaller group learning, innovative ideas, and technology. Our diverse program offerings allow us to cultivate a personally tailored experience to each of our participants affording everyone an opportunity to thrive and feel successful.
Job Functions:
  • Work with individuals to meet their outlined goals, as well as service plan requirements to help create a meaningful life for others.
  • Read, comprehend and put into practice individual client plans, protocols, and goals.
  • Supervise and monitor clients to always maintain safety and appropriate supervision levels.
  • Assist with feeding, changing and performing any activities of daily living required to ensure the health and safety of our participants. This includes verbal prompting, hand over hand and full physical assistance in the restroom. Must be comfortable and confident in performing bathroom supports. (Training will be provided, changes are done between 2 people at all times)
  • Engage in, participate and lead group activities with those receiving services. Model and uphold ethical boundaries with clients and peers.
  • Transportation of individuals to and from Day Program or individual appointments might be required.
  • Solve problems, handle conflict, and be mentally adaptable in dealing with multiple individuals with challenging behaviors when in Day Program
  • Complete daily notes and goals tracking through Spectrum's provided online tools
  • and monthly paperwork.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Experience
  • One year of direct experience with individuals with developmental disabilities or relevant experience or education is preferred but not required

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • High energy, positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills and a passion for caring for others.
  • Able to pass a Colorado or National Based Criminal background check and Colorado Adult Protective Services (CAPS) background check.
  • Able to provide all elements of hands-on care per client's individual needs.
  • Dependable and Punctual.
  • Must feel comfortable driving a 12-passenger van (for coverage only)
  • Possess a positive and coachable attitude.
  • Strong communication and reading comprehension skills.

Driving:
  • Valid Driver's License with at least one year's driving experience
  • Able to provide current Colorado motor driving vehicle record, with previous seven years of driving history (if applicable)
  • Reliable vehicle able to pass a Vehicle Safety Inspection
  • Proof of automobile insurance coverage, with at least Bodily Injury $25/$50K per person/per accident and property damage $15,000

Physical Requirements:
  • Able to provide all elements of hands-on care per client's individual needs.
  • Able to lift at least 30 pounds independently.
  • Able to exert up to 60 pounds of force; physical condition to enable walking, standing, stooping, kneeling and crouching.
  • Work on your feet throughout (approximately 6 hours) the day.
  • Transfer clients in and out of vans with and without assistance.
  • Transfer clients in and out of wheelchairs, from a sitting to a standing position and vice versa, with and without assistance.
  • Complete a 2 person transfer in the restroom onto and off of changing table

  • Initial Orientation and On-Boarding
  • CPR/First Aid/Universal Precautions
  • QMAP-Med Administration
  • Safety Care Behavioral Safety Training
