Chemical Technician III - Whitehouse, New Jersey

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions to many of the world's top-recognized brands and companies, is actively seeking a Chemical Technician III to join our Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals team in Whitehouse, New Jersey. 

Intertek Pharmaceutical Services located in Whitehouse, New Jersey, USA, is a cGMP contract testing, analytical research and development laboratory. Intertek Pharmaceutical Services works directly with both large and small pharmaceutical companies to help bring safe and effective pharmaceutical products to market.  An opportunity has arisen for a Chemical Technician III to join this organization within the Spectroscopy team.  The team utilizes modern spectroscopy instrumentation to support pharmaceutical product testing and release.

Shift/Schedule: Business hours 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM, no travel.

Salary & Benefits Information

The base wage for this position is $30 - $35 per hour. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

What you'll do:

  • Perform routine spectroscopy analyses following a written method or protocol independently
  • Perform more complex analyses under supervision.  This includes method development and method validation studies.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, including spectroscopy systems.
  • Use data systems to collect and process data.
  • Author reports for routine analyses independently and contribute to reports for complex studies with supervision
  • Follow current procedures and regulations as directed by senior staff and management
  • Write procedures, observations and results in notebooks
  • Prepare standards and solutions, and samples using a variety of techniques
  • Measure, collect and record test data in accordance with written procedures
  • Perform basic calculations 
  • Perform tasks essential for laboratory maintenance, operation and quality assurance 
  • Effectively collaborate with colleagues on laboratory techniques, sample preparation, instrumentation, data analysis, documentation, and safety
  • Ensure compliance of company/client SOP, protocols, safety policies, methods, or other procedures with government rules and regulations
  • Use computer systems and software programs - Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook), data acquisition programs - to acquire and document results

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Chemistry, Biology or related scientific degree 
  • 1-3 years of related industry experience in an analytical laboratory
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety precautions and protocols for safe handling and the disposal of hazardous agents/reagents, chemicals and materials
  • Organization, communication and analytical skills
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate technical and business information, both oral and written to others, including co-workers, supervisors, subordinates, clients, and vendors
  • Intermediate mathematical skills, including: algebraic functions, statistics (mean, median, standard deviation, variance, probability), basic geometry (area, volume calculations), and scientific calculators
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to work varied and extended hours/days, as business dictates
  • Regularly lift/carry/move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift/carry/move up to 50 pounds
  • Climb stairs 
  • Laboratory bench work may require standing for extended periods of time

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Hands-on work experience with ICP-OES and ICP-MS.
  • Hands-on work experience with software programs Masshunter and Qterga.
