Monday - Thursday 9 AM - 2:30 PM; Fridays 9 AM - 4 PM
Monday - Friday 8 PM - 1 AM
Join Our Laboratory Team!
We are seeking a detail-oriented Specimen Accessioning Technician to join our fast-paced laboratory team. In this role, you will be responsible for receiving, verifying, processing, and preparing specimens for laboratory testing while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with laboratory procedures and regulatory standards.
The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and committed to maintaining specimen integrity throughout the accessioning process. Previous laboratory or specimen processing experience is a plus, but we welcome candidates with strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Job Responsibilities
- Receive, sort, and accession incoming specimens for laboratory testing.
- Open specimen shipments and verify specimen identification, labeling, and accompanying documentation.
- Review chain of custody forms and determine specimen acceptability according to laboratory procedures.
- Accurately enter specimen information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Maintain specimen integrity and ensure accurate specimen tracking throughout the accessioning process.
- Prepare specimens for testing, storage, and shipment.
- Assist with specimen triage and sample handling activities.
- Inspect specimens for quality, completeness, and proper labeling.
- Dispose of specimens according to laboratory procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Inspect work areas and waste containers to ensure no specimens or documentation remain after processing.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory work environment.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), laboratory policies, and quality standards.
- Protect patient and donor confidentiality by following all privacy and security requirements.
- Work collaboratively with laboratory staff to support daily workflow and turnaround times.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous laboratory, specimen processing, healthcare, or medical office experience is preferred but not required.
- Basic computer and data entry skills.
- Ability to learn and navigate Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
- Ability to follow written procedures, SOPs, and quality standards.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
