Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Specification Lead to join our major aviation project in Toronto, Canada. In this pivotal role, you will take ownership of specification development and management, ensuring technical accuracy, compliance with aviation standards, and seamless integration across all project workstreams. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional analytical capabilities, decisive leadership, and a commitment to delivering world-class technical documentation that meets the rigorous demands of the aviation industry.

  • Lead the development, review, and maintenance of comprehensive technical specifications for major aviation project deliverables, ensuring compliance with AS9100, DO-178C, FAA regulations, and other applicable aviation standards • Manage the specification baseline and control changes through formal configuration management processes, maintaining traceability and version control across all documentation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, systems, quality assurance, and programme management to gather requirements and translate them into clear, unambiguous specifications • Conduct rigorous analysis of specification requirements to identify gaps, inconsistencies, and potential risks, proposing solutions and mitigation strategies
  • Oversee the specification review and approval process, facilitating stakeholder engagement and ensuring all parties understand and endorse technical requirements • Mentor and guide junior specification engineers and technical writers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement within the specification function • Utilise specification management tools and systems to organise, track, and report on specification status, metrics, and compliance
  • Ensure all specifications are organised, accessible, and maintained in accordance with project and organisational standards • Liaise with regulatory bodies and certification authorities as required, supporting compliance demonstrations and audit activities • Contribute to project planning and scheduling activities related to specification development and delivery milestones
Qualifications

**Required:** • Minimum 8 years' experience in aviation or aerospace specification development, technical documentation, or systems engineering

  • Proven track record leading specification efforts on major, complex projects within the aviation or defence sectors • Comprehensive knowledge of aviation standards and regulations, including AS9100, DO-178C, FAA Part 23/25, and equivalent international standards • Advanced technical writing and documentation skills with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely
  • Proficiency with specification management tools such as IBM DOORS, Requisite Pro, or equivalent platforms • Strong project management experience, including planning, scheduling, and resource coordination • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities with meticulous attention to detail
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and stakeholders across multiple organisational levels • Ability to work effectively in a matrix environment and collaborate with diverse technical and non-technical teams • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously **Desirable:**
  • Experience with systems engineering methodologies (INCOSE, V-model, or Agile approaches) • Knowledge of configuration management and change control processes • Familiarity with aviation certification and approval processes • Background in defence or aerospace programme management • Experience with requirements traceability and impact analysis • Knowledge of digital specification tools and collaborative platforms
