Spartan Emergency Response (Spartan ER) is a leading designer, manufacturer and distributor of custom emergency response vehicles, cabs, and chassis. Spartan has a rich history in fire apparatus manufacturing with over 250 years of combined experience.
 
Spartan Emergency Response is part of Terex Corporation, a global designer and manufacturer of specialized vehicles and equipment, including fire and emergency vehicles, waste and recycling equipment, RV's, and machinery supporting construction, utilities, and infrastructure. SUMMARY:

The Sand & Buff position is responsible for the polishing cabs, parts, and other products to ensure compliance with Spartan's Paint Appearance Requirement for emergency response cabs and bodies.

 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspect the cab/body, parts, and/or other products for defects
  • Remove dirt and/ or runs using supplied tools
  • Sand and buff the cab/body, parts, and / or other products using supplied tools to to ensure compliance with Spartan's Paint Appearance Requirement
  • Detail cab/body prior to it leaving work center
  • Work in a team enviroment
  • Learn and retain skills and practices needed to complete duties in assigned area
  • Read and follow detailed operator instructions, installation drawings, blueprints, etcetera, as required by a particular area  
  • Understand, and be able to articulate, the production flow of an assigned product line or area
  • Self-check work and inspect prior processes
  • Use basic hand, electric, cordless, and pneumatic tools, as required
  • Meet production goals
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Initiate process improvements
  • Support 5S in work area
  • Communicate with manufacturing and other cross-functional teams (engineering, materials, purchasing, sales, etcetera) to resolve issues
  • Work in close proximity with customer, as needed
  • Solve complex problems with minimal assistance

 

   

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent attendance

  • Strong and consistent attention to detail
  • Self-motivated with the ability to stay on task
  • Team oriented
  • Basic computer skills are required
  • No critical shortcomings on last performance review
  • Body and paint experience preferred
  • Able to:
    • Operate a DA sander and an air polisher for extended amounts of time
    • Tolerate very high heat temperatures and dusty conditions
    • Work overtime on short notice
  • Be willing to:
    • Wear PPE respirators for extended amount of time
    • Improve self / area / company (including pursuing additional training, if needed)
    • Develop a working knowledge of Spartan's systems (example: AS/400)

EDUCATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: (Select education and/or other certifications that may be either required or preferred to perform the job)
