Job description

The Armed Security Officer is responsible for helping provide a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for employees, students, church members, counseling clients, volunteers, visitors, and guests. This position provides a visible security presence, responds to emergencies, assists with investigations, and works collaboratively with church leadership, school administration, counseling center staff, and local law enforcement when appropriate.
The Armed Security Officer serves in a professional, calm, and service-oriented manner while supporting the mission and values of Spanish River Church. A pre-employment drug screening is required for all candidates offered employment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Security Operations
  • Patrol church, school, counseling center, and parking areas on foot and by vehicle.
  • Maintain a visible security presence during church services, school hours, counseling appointments, special events, athletic events, and evening activities.
  • Monitor entrances, exits, and campus access.
  • Assist in enforcing campus security procedures.
  • Respond promptly to suspicious activity, disturbances, alarms, medical emergencies, and security incidents.
  • Conduct building security checks including doors, windows, gates, and perimeter inspections.
  • Assist with opening and securing buildings.

Emergency Response
  • Respond to emergencies using sound judgment and established protocols.
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement, fire rescue, and emergency medical personnel.
  • Assist with lockdowns, evacuations, shelter-in-place procedures, and other emergency responses.
  • Provide initial incident assessment until emergency responders arrive.
  • Maintain familiarity with emergency response plans.
Safety & Risk Management
  • Identify and report safety hazards.
  • Assist with traffic flow during school dismissal, church services, funerals, weddings, and special events.
  • Monitor security cameras and alarm systems when assigned.
  • Document incidents and prepare accurate written reports.
  • Assist with investigations involving accidents, thefts, or policy violations.
Community Relations
  • Greet visitors professionally.
  • Provide directions and assistance to guests.
  • Build positive relationships with staff, students, parents, church members, volunteers, and counseling clients.
  • Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Qualifications Required
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Valid Florida Class "G" Statewide Firearm License.
  • Valid Florida Class "D" Security Officer License (or ability to obtain).
  • Ability to legally carry a firearm while on duty.
  • Ability to successfully pass criminal background screening and drug screening.
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification or ability to obtain.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
Preferred
  • Retired law enforcement officer strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience as a sworn law enforcement officer, school resource officer, military police, or armed security officer.
  • Experience working in schools, churches, or nonprofit organizations.
  • Active Shooter Response or ALICE training.
  • Crisis Intervention Training (CIT).

  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequently patrol buildings and outdoor campus areas.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Climb stairs.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to respond quickly during emergencies.
