 Medical Assistant (Administrative)

Location: In-person, Office-Based (South Loop West, Houston, TX 77054)
Type: Full Time
Rate: TBD depending on Experience.

Role Summary

We seek a detail-oriented, bilingual (Spanish) Medical Assistant for patient care, clinical coordination, and administrative support. You will assist Nurse Practitioners (NPs) in the field by managing workflows, scheduling, and patient records (No patients or procedures in the office). This role requires independence, strong triage skills, and excellent phone etiquette.
Responsibilities (Scope of Work)

  • Scheduling & Routing: Confirm appointments and optimize provider routes for the next 48 hours.
  • Insurance & Payments: Verify eligibility with the billing department and collect copays accurately during scheduling.
  • Records Management: Use E-fax (Updox) and EHR (Practice Fusion) to label, file, and attach records, and for clinical management.
  • Care Coordination: Act as a liaison between patients, families, Home Health agencies, pharmacies, and specialists.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively and coordinate with the NP.
  • Triage & Safety: Recognize emergencies and escalate per safety policies and MA scope of practice.
  • Clinical Admin (CPO/CCM): Record clinical tasks for Care Plan Oversight and Chronic Care Management; prepare NP notes.
  • Patient Intake: Manage the new patient referral process, including history, medications, and follow-ups.
  • Documentation & Tech: Complete DME forms; manage shared files in Word/Excel; collaborate via Microsoft Teams and Planner.
  • Management Reporting: Follow Practice Manager assignments and provide activity reports.
  • Other duties: Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications

  • Certification: Medical Assistant (MA) certification or degree required.
  • Language: English and Fluent Spanish speaker (preferred)
  • Technical: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel). Teams/Planner knowledge is a plus. EHR (Practice Fusion) and Updox proficiency are a plus.

  • Environment: 100% office-based role. No direct clinical procedures (vitals/blood draws) and no office patient visits.
