Job description

Primary Purpose:

Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building and grounds operation.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:
Must be 18 years of age or older
Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and ground maintenance
Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies
Experience:
Experience in stripping, buffing and waxing floors
Working successfully with students, co-workers and community
 












Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Develop and maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.
  2. Keep school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas neat and clean.
  3. Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.
  4. Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and order additional supplies as needed.
  5. Maintain a program of preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff.
  6. Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
  7. Make minor building repairs as needed and report major repair needs to principal.
  8. Move furniture or equipment within building as directed by principal.
  9. Assume responsibility for opening and closing building each school day.
  10. Establish procedure for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
  11. Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during hours of building occupancy.
  12. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  13. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.
  14. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  15. The professionalism to work in a professional manner with co-workers, students and staff.
  16. Daily attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Stripper, buffer, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, shampooer, electric drill, lawn
mower, edger, carpenter's tools and weed eater
Posture: Strenuous walking, standing, stooping, bending and climbing.
Motion: Repetitive hand motions
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (up to 40+ lbs.)
Environment: Work outside and inside, exposure to hot and cold temperatures, exposure to dust,
toxic chemicals, and materials, slippery or uneven walking surfaces and working on ladders; common work
area with moderate noise level, ability to work with chemicals, biological exposure to bacteria and
communicable diseases are a possibility
Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, accuracy in completing
assigned task, and ability to read
Other Information:
Must have a reliable vehicle, and may be required to work night shift
