GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

Leads the operation, maintenance, and repair of material handling equipment critical to the safe, efficient distribution of products within the Distribution Center. Ensures maximum equipment uptime by applying advanced troubleshooting skills across a variety of machines and systems. If serving as the Lead technician, providing technical guidance, delegating daily maintenance tasks, and ensuring clear end-of-shift handoffs.  Acts as the primary point of contact for managers and supervisors on equipment performance, repairs, and maintenance priorities. This role combines hands-on expertise with leadership responsibility to support operational excellence in a high-volume, 300,000+ sq. ft. facility.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (*Essential Functions)

The DC Maintenance Technician is a champion of Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, and should demonstrate them skillfully and consistently by performing the following duties and responsibilities of the position (as well as all other projects/duties as assigned):

 Performance

  • Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs industrial electrical systems, motor controls, and electronics 
  • Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots power distribution systems, branch circuits, lighting systems, transformers, and wiring methods and materials 
  • Designs and builds specifications for new electrical circuits 
  • Maintains and repairs Material Handling Systems such as conveyors, case erectors, and sortation equipment   
  • Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots relay logic, ladder diagrams, control components, including photo eyes, motor starters, relays, limit switches, proximity sensors, timers, solenoids, Servo drives, frequency inverters, linear drives, tachs, and encoders   
  • Troubleshoots PLC ladder logic (read use for troubleshooting), components (CPU back plains, I/O boards, counters, modules, and devices) and communications protocols  
  • Modifies programming code to change operation of conveyors, interpreting multiple programming code languages 
  • Maintains and repairs battery powered equipment
  • Performs basic maintenance of powered equipment manufacturers, including Raymond, Crown, Toyota 
  • Maintains building and grounds, including basic carpentry and HVAC troubleshooting.  
  • Maintains a clean and organized maintenance shop
  • Enters data into the CMMS program, ensuring paperwork completion by all associates at the end of shift and timely completion of associated duties
  • Performs other general warehouse tasks as assigned 

People

  • Provides technical guidance on repairs, delegating daily maintenance tasks and ensuring smooth shift transitions through detailed “end-of-shift" handoffs
  • Ensures all associates timely complete required CMMS documentation and associated end-of-shift
  • Serves as primary point of contact for Managers and Supervisors regarding equipment maintenance and repair priorities
  • Participates in mandatory trainings and meetings to support continuous professional growth and team development

  • Maintains thorough knowledge of and ensures compliance with Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards
  • Adheres to the Ulta Beauty dress code
  • Protects company assets by following loss prevention best practices and providing exceptional guest service
  • Executes other operational tasks as directed to support business needs

Education

  • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience

 

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience conducting preventative maintenance and advanced knowledge of machinery Ulta Beauty uses inside of our distribution centers
  • Experience with safety procedures on equipment

Licenses/Certifications

  • Valid state-issued HVAC technician, Electrician, or Plumber license or certification required
  • Manufacture certified repair person for powered equipment

Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of communication protocols, such as Profibus, Modbus, Devicenet, ControlNet, etc. 
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot MHE peripheral.
  • Developed communication skills
  • Must be able to communicate on all levels 
  • Must be able to work individually and as a team
  • Basic ability to understand written and oral instructions in the English language
  • Ability to follow instructions quickly and accurately

 

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work overtime as needed 
  • Flexibility in daily task assignment 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Constant exposure to loud noises
  • Occasional work in high places
  • Exposure to variable temperatures
  • Exposure to dusty environment
