POSITION SUMMARY
Sony Corporation of America is seeking an individual with experience in State Tax to support our global tax department in New York City, NY. The Tax Accountant will assist with all elements of various indirect state tax compliance, reporting, and audits processes. This position will report to Manager of State and Local Taxes.
This is a Hybrid Role requiring 3-4 days onsite in our NYC office.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare 700 business personal property returns for 39 reportable states covering over 200 various jurisdictions

  • Log and review over 400 property tax assessment notices, 500 property tax bills, and any open appeals

  • Prepare quarterly and annualized NY commercial rent tax returns, billboard and signage familiarity preferred

  • Prepare various other state and local tax returns including San Francisco gross receipts/homeless tax, annual reports, and Delaware Franchise Tax

  • Administer and oversee data related to the formation, dissolution and ownership structure of legal entities within the tax group

  • Assist with training of affiliates worldwide, interact with accounting, finance, and operating business unit teams

  • Maintain the tax department's compliance calendar

  • Keep current on state legislative changes and developments

  • Facilitate and champion process improvement initiatives within the tax group to enhance efficiency through the introduction of innovative solutions and collaboration with other tax specialty groups
  • Honesty, trustworthiness and ethical conduct are material requirements for the responsibilities outlined above

QUALIFICATION FOR POSITION
Your qualifications and experience should include:
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting/Taxation or equivalent experience required

  • A minimum of 1-2 years of experience of public accounting and/or corporate tax experience from a large corporation. Entertainment industry experience preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, high degree of accuracy and self-review, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a deadline driven dynamic environment

  • Proficient with MS Office and automation solutions a plus.

  • Must be eligible to work unrestricted in the USA

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $80,000 to $90,000. In addition to the annual base salary, this role has an annual bonus target of 7%. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
