Job Description

NBC Washington is seeking a skilled, creative, and highly organized Senior Digital Multimedia Journalist to develop and produce original journalism across video, social, streaming, podcast, and emerging platforms.

This role is designed for a creative journalist who thrives as an end-to-end storyteller-someone who can identify compelling stories, shape the editorial vision, and execute that vision from pitch to publication. The ideal candidate is a creator-producer with strong reporting instincts, exceptional editorial judgment, advanced production skills, and a passion for visual storytelling.

This is not an on-air role. While the position may occasionally support talent, hosts, or reporters, the primary focus is creating journalism behind the camera. We are seeking a journalist who excels in story development, production, shooting, editing, and audience-focused storytelling rather than on-air presentation.

The successful candidate doesn't begin with a format. They begin with a story, an audience need, or a question worth answering-and then determine the best way to bring it to life. They know how to identify the most effective platform, style, and storytelling approach for each piece of journalism, whether it's breaking news coverage, explanatory reporting, an interview-driven feature, a longform video project, or a recurring digital franchise.

Responsibilities

  • Own stories from concept to publication, including reporting, production, shooting, editing, publishing, and distribution.
  • Pitch and produce original journalism ranging from breaking news and explanatory reporting to enterprise and longform storytelling.
  • Develop recurring franchises, serialized storytelling formats, and signature digital content.
  • Create compelling video content across digital, social, streaming, and emerging platforms.
  • Package content for audience discovery using strong editorial judgment and platform-specific best practices.
  • Collaborate with reporters, producers, photographers, talent, and newsroom leadership to elevate storytelling and audience impact.
  • Experiment with new formats, technologies, and storytelling approaches that enhance audience engagement.
  • Support livestream coverage of breaking news, weather, community events, interviews, and audience conversations.
  • Ensure all content meets NBC News Group standards for accuracy, fairness, ethics, and editorial excellence.

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Learn more about the benefits offered by NBCUniversal by visiting the Benefits page of the Careers website. Salary range: $100,000 - $120,000

Qualifications
  • Proven experience producing original journalism for digital-first audiences.
  • Strong reporting, writing, interviewing, and editorial decision-making skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in video production and post-production, including Adobe Premiere Pro and related creative tools.
  • Experience shooting with professional camera systems such as Sony FX6, Sony FX3, or comparable equipment.
  • Strong understanding of visual storytelling, including composition, lighting, audio, pacing, and audience engagement.
  • Experience creating content across multiple platforms, including YouTube, social video, streaming, and emerging formats.
  • Familiarity with mobile and emerging production tools, including smartphones, DJI Pocket cameras, GoPros, and 360-degree cameras.
  • Experience using audience insights and analytics to inform content strategy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced news environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work independently when needed.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be willing to work in Washington D.C.
  • Must be 18 years or greater
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays as required
  • Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.

Desired Characteristics

  • Creative journalist who owns storytelling from start to finish.
  • Curious, resourceful, visually minded creator-producer who is passionate about creating journalism that resonates with audiences wherever they consume content.
  • Ability to think visually, write conversationally, embrace experimentation, and continuously look for new ways to connect journalism with audiences.
  • Experience utilizing new technology, production techniques, and visual storytelling to create journalism that feels distinctive, engaging, and native to the platforms where audiences spend their time.
  • Experience using livestreaming as both a storytelling format and an audience-development tool, understanding how live experiences can extend reporting, deepen engagement, and create opportunities for recurring franchises.
