Sonar Operator Jobs (NOW HIRING)

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Surface Sonar & Combat Systems Analyst (Operations Research Analyst) provides technical and administrative test and evaluation (T&E) support for current Undersea Warfare (USW) combat systems, with a primary focus on the AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 Sonar Suite on the Hawaii Detachments Support Services contract. The analyst supports hull-mounted and towed-array sonar systems, auxiliary and weapon systems, and associated combat system interfaces. Working with moderate independence under senior analyst guidance, the analyst collects and reconstructs test data, develops analytical products and recommendations for U.S. Government stakeholders, and supports CSSQT aboard U.S. Navy and Foreign Military Sales AEGIS-equipped ships. The analyst applies operations research, statistical methods, modeling, and quantitative analysis to support test planning, execution, sonar performance, tactics, and operational readiness. This position is located in Honolulu, HI.

What You'll Do

• Conducts technical analysis, performance assessments, and data reconstruction while supporting the planning, execution, analysis, reporting, and systems engineering of surface-ship USW Combat System T&E events, with emphasis on the AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 USW Combat System, including hull-mounted sonar, active and passive towed-array sonar systems, auxiliary equipment, and associated combat system interfaces.
• Supports test planning by evaluating ship configurations and combat-system baselines, determining test requirements, developing test scenarios and target geometries, and identifying resources required for safe test execution.
• Serves as a member of the shipboard USW Combat System test team and, upon qualification, as a subject matter expert for assigned equipment, overseeing scheduled tests and documenting results in accordance with approved test plans.
• Supports shipboard pierside and at-sea test execution, including equipment operation, maintenance and troubleshooting, test instrumentation, data collection, and live-fire events in accordance with approved USN procedures and safety requirements.
• Applies operations research techniques, statistical methods, modeling tools, and quantitative analysis to reconstruct test events and evaluate sonar detection, classification, localization, tracking, tactics, system performance, and operational effectiveness.
• Develops analytical reports, briefings, data products, findings, conclusions, and recommendations for USG stakeholders to support system performance, operational readiness, and future test requirements.
• Supports continuous improvement by reviewing and developing T&E processes, procedures, equipment, and analytical methodologies, and assists with future test requirements and the research, development, and testing of electronic systems and components.
• Participates in USG training to complete required qualifications, assists with task planning, cost estimates, etc.
• Bid and proposal support as requested.
• Other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• An active DoD secret clearance is required to be considered.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Operations Research, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Physics, Acoustics, Ocean Engineering, or a related quantitative field is required. In lieu of a relevant degree, three (3) or more years of experience AND possession of at least one of the following USN Enlisted Classification (NEC) codes may be substituted:
• V52B - AN/SQQ-89(V)15 Sonar System Level II Technician.
• V55B - AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 Surface Ship USW Combat Systems Maintenance Technician.
• V56B - AN/SQQ-89A(V)15/(V)15 EC204 Surface Ship USW Combat Systems Journeyman.
• Three (3) years of professional experience in operations research, data analysis, systems analysis, USN USW combat systems, or a related technical field.
• Experience working on AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 Sonar Suite ACB15+ or later versions within the last five years.
• Understanding of operations research principles, statistical analysis, data modeling, and quantitative methods and their application to USN combat systems and USW operations.
• Knowledge of active sonar principles, including hull-mounted sonar systems, active and passive towed-array modes, detection and classification performance metrics, and related tactics and environmental factors.
• Proficiency with Linux-based operating systems, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and sonar-related applications used for system operation, testing, data collection, analysis, troubleshooting, and visualization.
• Skill with analytical techniques used to collect, document, analyze, and evaluate USW Combat System test data and results in accordance with approved test plans and USN procedures.
• Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
• Must possess strong time management skills.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Desired Qualifications:

• Prior service as a work center supervisor, leading petty officer, leading chief petty officer, or in a comparable USN technical leadership position.
• Experience with USN sonar systems, sonar analysis, USW tactics, or combat system T&E.
• Experience supporting at-sea testing, shipboard operations, data reconstruction, or performance assessment of USN combat systems.

Physical Requirements:

• Travel required: ~25% CONUS travel required to include riding on board U.S. Navy ships.
• Must be able to remain seated in a stationary position 50% of the time. Must also be able to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking.
• The ability to lift items that may weigh up to 50 pounds.
• The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, or recurring and considerable walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing such as in performing regular shop activities, inspections, or to observe and study operations in an industrial or comparable work area or on-board submarines and in weapon facilities.
