What is a solutions?

Solutions roles, often referred to as Solutions Engineers or Solutions Architects, are positions focused on designing, implementing, and supporting technical solutions tailored to meet client or business needs. These professionals bridge the gap between customer requirements and the technical products or services a company offers. They work closely with sales, product, and engineering teams to ensure that proposed solutions are feasible, scalable, and address specific challenges. Solutions roles typically require strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication to translate complex concepts into actionable plans.

How does a solutions architect typically collaborate with sales and technical teams during the project lifecycle?

A Solutions Architect serves as a bridge between sales teams and technical teams, often participating in pre-sales meetings to understand client needs and designing tailored solutions. They work closely with sales professionals to articulate technical concepts in a customer-friendly way and with engineers or developers to ensure the proposed solution is feasible and aligns with best practices. Throughout the project lifecycle, Solutions Architects facilitate communication, oversee solution implementation, and address technical challenges, ensuring the client's requirements are met. This collaborative role requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to translate business objectives into technical solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a solutions architect, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Solutions Architect, you need a strong background in systems design, software development principles, and enterprise architecture, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with cloud platforms (such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), architecture frameworks, and relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect) is typically required. Exceptional communication, problem-solving abilities, and stakeholder management skills set top performers apart. These competencies are vital for designing scalable solutions that meet business needs and for effectively bridging technical and non-technical teams.

For the past 25 years, ProPharma has improved the health and wellness of patients by providing advice and expertise that empowers biotech, med device, and pharmaceutical organizations of all sizes to confidently advance scientific breakthroughs and introduce new therapies. ProPharma partners with its clients through an advise-build-operate model across the complete product lifecycle. With deep domain expertise in regulatory sciences, clinical research solutions, quality & compliance, pharmacovigilance, medical information, and R&D technology, ProPharma offers an end-to-end suite of fully customizable consulting solutions that de-risk and accelerate our partnersโ€™ most high-profile drug and device programs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Benchling implementation and managed service support: Providing Benchling related project scoping, requirements gathering, documentation generation, and overall system assessment. Maintenance and generating as needed client tailored training material for new hires as well as existing Benchling end user training.
  • Spreadsheet based legacy data migrations and imports into Benchling.
  • Configuration of the Benchling in vivo software (this is a nice to have right now, but if we get Moderna would be required)
  • Understanding and use of Benchling APIs for integrations is a bonus.

Whilst ProPharma supports remote working, we also recognise the value that comes from in person collaboration. As such, we encourage any new hires that are based within a reasonably short commute of one of our offices to work on a hybrid basis and spend some time working from that office location, as agreed with your manager. All applications will be treated on their own merit and candidates will not be at any advantage or disadvantage based on their proximity to an office.

We celebrate our differences and strive to create a workplace where each person can be their authentic self. We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Employees are encouraged to unleash their innovative, collaborative, and entrepreneurial spirits. With a holistic approach as an Equal Opportunity Employer, we provide a safe space where all employees feel empowered to succeed.
