Job description

Production Value Stream Manager

Location: Peabody, MA

Employment Type: Full-Time

Compensation: 115k-130k

Company Overview

We are a small, entrepreneurial contract manufacturing company serving the Semiconductor and R&D industries. Our work focuses on clean, complex, and high-precision manufacturing. The organization operates across two primary divisions: one specializing in advanced precision fabrication (machining and welding of complex components and assemblies), and another focused on system and subassembly build, test, and integration for turnkey customer solutions.

Job Summary

The Production Value Stream Manager owns the end-to-end performance of the machining value stream. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, high-quality, on-time delivery while building a scalable, disciplined organization capable of supporting high-complexity, quick-turn manufacturing work.

Key Responsibilities

Value Stream Performance

  • Own on-time delivery, quality, safety, and cost performance within the machining department
  • Set and communicate daily and weekly production priorities
  • Manage WIP, capacity, and constraints across cells and shifts
  • Ensure second shift executes repeat work to established standards

Leadership & Organization

  • Lead, coach, and develop Cell Leads and support roles
  • Establish clear accountability without micromanagement
  • Ensure the right people are focused on the right problems
  • Support hiring, performance reviews, and development of production leaders

Technical Alignment (Not Technical Ownership)

  • Partner closely with Principal/Master Machinists and CNC Programming
  • Ensure consistent technical direction and adherence to standards
  • Balance schedule pressure with technical risk
  • Protect expert technical resources from administrative burden and firefighting

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Collaborate closely with Production Planning, Engineering, Quality, and Purchasing
  • Escalate systemic issues rather than personally resolving recurring problems
  • Ensure clean handoffs and clear ownership across functions

Continuous Improvement & Scalability

  • Drive standard work and process discipline
  • Reduce variation, rework, and unplanned disruptions
  • Support skills development and certification pathways
  • Build scalable systems that reduce reliance on individual heroics

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, Operations, or related field
    OR equivalent operational leadership experience
  • 10+ years of experience in a precision manufacturing environment
  • 5+ years of experience leading production teams or value streams

Preferred

  • Lean Manufacturing or Value Stream Management training
  • APICS / ASCM CPIM certification
  • Experience working in MRP-driven manufacturing environments
