Job description

Job Title: Tool & Die Machinist Location: Rockwood, TN Status: Non-exempt, Hourly Reports to: Plant Manager Hours: Monday - Friday,7:30am - 4:00pm Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Tool and Die Machinist to manufacture, repair, and maintain precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and specialized parts used in manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will have expertise in reading blueprints, using manual and CNC machining equipment, and ensuring tooling is made to exact specifications to support production operations. Key Responsibilities:
  • Set up and operate manual and CNC machines (mills, lathes, grinders, EDM, etc.) to fabricate precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and specialized parts.
  • Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to create or repair dies and tooling.
  • Inspect finished products to ensure they meet required tolerances and specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Work closely with engineering and production teams to troubleshoot tooling issues.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and tooling inventory.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Run production parts as required.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required; trade school or apprenticeship certification preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience as a tool and die machinist in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of machining practices, metallurgy, heat treatment, and tool design.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Experience with both manual and CNC equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems with minimal supervision.
Preferred Skills:
  • CAD/CAM programming experience (Mastercam, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.).
  • Experience with die-making for stamping, injection molding, or progressive tooling.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and 5S principles.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
  • Standing, bending, and reaching for extended periods.
  • Use of protective equipment and adherence to shop safety standards.
