What is a solar site surveyor?

A Solar Site Surveyor assesses properties to determine their suitability for solar panel installations. They take measurements, evaluate roof conditions, analyze shading, and document site details. The information they gather helps engineers design efficient solar energy systems. Surveyors use tools like drones, laser measuring devices, and digital mapping software. Their work ensures accurate system placement for optimal energy production.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a solar site surveyor?

A Solar Site Surveyor’s daily responsibilities typically include visiting prospective installation sites to perform measurements, assess roof conditions, and document shading and structural features. They use specialized tools and software to gather accurate data, take photographs, and create site survey reports that guide the solar design and engineering teams. Surveyors frequently collaborate with project managers, sales staff, and installation crews to ensure all technical requirements are met and regulatory standards are followed. This role is hands-on, detail-oriented, and often requires both fieldwork and time spent compiling data in the office.

Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help you work efficiently with clients, designers, and installation teams. These competencies ensure accurate site data collection, seamless project planning, and safe, successful solar installations.

What does a solar site surveyor do?
