What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Solar Project Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Solar Project Manager, you need expertise in project management, renewable energy systems, and a relevant engineering or technical degree. Familiarity with project management software (such as MS Project or Primavera), permitting processes, and industry certifications like PMP or NABCEP are typically required. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and effective communication skills help manage teams and stakeholder expectations. These skills are vital for delivering solar projects on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a Solar Project Manager?

A Solar Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and completion of solar installation projects. Their daily tasks often include coordinating with engineers, contractors, and clients, monitoring project timelines and budgets, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and resolving any issues that arise on-site. They also handle documentation, procurement of materials, and communicate progress to stakeholders. The role requires strong organizational skills and frequent collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery.

What are Solar Projects?

Solar projects refer to initiatives that involve the design, development, installation, and management of solar energy systems. These projects can range from small residential rooftop solar panels to large-scale solar farms that generate electricity for thousands of homes. Solar projects aim to harness energy from the sun using photovoltaic cells or solar thermal systems, providing a clean, renewable alternative to fossil fuels. They often require collaboration among engineers, project managers, electricians, and environmental specialists. The growing focus on sustainability and clean energy has made solar projects increasingly popular worldwide.

  • Collaborate with development, construction, procurement, and O&M teams
  • Drive innovation through AI tools, automation, and modern software platforms
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, ASCE, AISC, UL, and regulatory requirements
  • Serve as the technical authority on complex engineering and design issues
  • Develop engineering talent for the future

What We’re Looking For

  • 12+ years of progressive engineering experience (5+ in a senior leadership role)
  • Background in utility-scale renewable energy, EPC, or infrastructure projects
  • Strong knowledge of power systems, energy storage, and utility interconnection
  • Proven experience leading geographically diverse engineering teams
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (ABET-accredited); PE license
  • Excellent strategic thinking, communication, and team-building skills

Why Join Strata Clean Energy?

  • Join a passionate and mission-driven team of industry leaders
  • Competitive compensation + bonus
  • Benefits offered:
    • Comprehensive high-deductible health plans
    • Dental and vision insurance
    • Short- and long-term disability
    • Group life insurance
    • 401(k) with corporate matching
    • Health Saving Account (HSAs) and Flexible Spending Account (FSAs)
  • Competitive PTO and company holidays
