A Solar Panel Sales job involves selling solar energy systems to residential or commercial customers. Sales representatives educate clients on the benefits of solar energy, assess their energy needs, and provide customized solutions. They may work for solar companies or as independent consultants, handling lead generation, customer consultations, and closing deals. This role requires strong communication skills, industry knowledge, and the ability to explain financial incentives like tax credits and rebates. Successful salespeople can earn commissions based on the number of systems sold.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in solar panel sales?

To thrive in Solar Panel Sales, you need strong sales acumen, a basic understanding of solar energy systems, and preferably experience in technical or B2B/B2C sales. Familiarity with CRM software, solar design tools, and certifications such as NABCEP are valuable assets. Job Type

Full Time

1+ Years

Base + Commissions

Location: Bainbridge, NY (in-office; this is not a remote or hybrid position)
Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday-Friday; some evening availability required, as many customers are best reached after standard business hours
Compensation: $50,000/year ($25/hr) draw against commission

The Role

As an Inside Sales Representative, you'll work from our Bainbridge office guiding warm, company-provided leads through the sales process for solar panel installations and heat pump systems. This is a consultative selling role - you'll educate homeowners and business owners on their options, explain financing and available incentives, and help them make confident decisions about clean energy upgrades. No door-knocking, no cold calls - just meaningful conversations with people who have already expressed interest.

What You’ll Do

  • Contact and qualify company-provided leads via phone, email, and virtual meetings

  • Conduct consultative phone and video presentations to assess customer needs and recommend solar and heat pump solutions

  • Manage your sales pipeline and follow-up activities in our CRM system

  • Guide customers through pricing, financing options, tax credits (such as the federal ITC), and projected energy savings

  • Close residential and commercial solar and heat pump deals

  • Coordinate with the installation and operations teams to ensure a smooth handoff after each sale

  • Stay current on product offerings, industry trends, and available incentive programs

What We’re Looking For

  • 1-3 years of sales experience (inside sales, phone sales, or a customer-facing consultative role)

  • Experience in solar, HVAC, home improvement, or a related industry is a plus - but not required; we provide thorough training

  • Comfort explaining financial concepts such as financing plans, tax credits, and return on investment to customers

  • Proficiency with CRM software and basic office tools

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and organized

Draw: $50,000/year ($25/hour) paid as a draw against commission

Commission: Earn beyond your draw through a performance-based commission structure - the more you close, the more you earn

Benefits include:

  • Health insurance

  • Paid time off (PTO)

  • Ongoing product and sales training

  • Career advancement opportunities in a growing company

Why Join IGS?

  • Work in one of the fastest-growing industries in the country - clean energy demand is accelerating across New York and nationwide

  • Warm leads mean you spend your time selling, not prospecting

  • Comprehensive training program - solar or HVAC experience is helpful but not required

  • Clear advancement opportunities as the company grows

  • Be part of a mission-driven team that’s making a real environmental impact

Salary Range Disclosure (New York State Pay Transparency): The good-faith annual compensation for this position is $50,000 ($25/hour), structured as a draw against commission. Actual total earnings will depend on individual sales performance and may exceed the draw amount. Compensation structure will be discussed in detail during the interview process.
