About the roleJoin General Motors at the Milford Proving Grounds Energy & Emissions Laboratories as an Industrial Chiller Systems Specialist. You will report to the Group Leader for Engineering Maintenance & Technical Support (EMT), a team that specifies, sources, engineers, integrates, safely commissions, and builds a robust maintenance model for lab test equipment. Your work influences the quality, durability, and performance of GM vehicles and related products—and advances our vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion.This role is ideal for someone energized by state-of-the-art test technologies, system-level integration, and hands-on work with complex laboratory infrastructure.A day in the lifeOperate, diagnose, troubleshoot, and maintain large-tonnage chillers, including work that leverages a Universal Refrigerant Handlers License.Support low-pressure/low-temperature applications across DX, flooded, and absorption chiller systems.Handle reciprocating, screw, scroll, and centrifugal compressor operations with confidence.Work across air- and water-cooled condensing systems.Read wiring schematics and troubleshoot complex electrical circuits with redundant feeds or mixed voltages up to 480V.Trace, diagnose, and correct issues in building electrical distribution.Use multimeters, meggers, and signal generators for precision diagnostics.Understand shut trip operation, integrate gas-detection systems, and resolve issues in multi-feed configurations.Perform diagnostics on solar array panels and UPS systems.Work safely around high voltage, up to and including 4160 volts.Apply deep knowledge of mechanical pump circuits with bypass control and multiple load sources; read mechanical one-line drawings.Service pneumatic control and actuated systems.Execute preventive maintenance across a broad mix of building and process equipment.Understand wind tunnel design, operation, and troubleshooting.Apply comprehensive knowledge of steam for heating, humidity control, and building systems, including steam generation.Troubleshoot steam traps, condensate recovery, steam-to-product heat exchangers, and other steam-dependent systems.Manage chemistry and pH control in facility product systems.Diagnose and fine-tune Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) operation and controls.Rig equipment and stabilize challenging loads safely.Operate forklifts, powered man lifts, and other facility-service equipment.Perform precision alignment using dial indicators and laser-guided tools.Leverage vibration data collection, ultrasonic testing, and thermal imaging as part of predictive maintenance.Meet physical demands including heavy lifting, working at heights, and performing in varied temperatures.Demonstrate organization, clear communication, schedule focus, and a safety-first mindset.Serve as a key contact for internal and external stakeholders on EMT operations and future planning.Track work-in-progress, provide status updates, and proactively surface and escalate roadblocks.Act as a technical resource to internal teams and suppliers across all EMT activities.Create, launch, and execute a preventive maintenance system and plans for critical test-support infrastructure.Qualifications5+ years of experience in a large-tonnage chiller service role.Hands-on knowledge of Maximo for preventive maintenance, planning, and execution.Proven autonomy in complex environments; able to prioritize and execute multiple maintenance events with minimal supervision.Experience with equipment used in Emissions Development and Certification testing (building and process).Proficiency with building management systems for operational diagnostics and troubleshooting.Background collaborating with equipment suppliers and installation contractors.Success working within multi-disciplinary teams on complex issues.Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, one-lines, and electrical/control diagrams for troubleshooting.Preferred10+ years of chiller service experience.Wind tunnel design, operation, and troubleshooting experience.Expertise with mechanical pump circuits, steam, humidity control, Reverse Osmosis, and CAP DI systems in process support.Exposure to vibration data collection, ultrasonic testing, and thermal imaging for predictive maintenance.Advanced Maximo use for preventive maintenance, planning, and execution.Experience with equipment maintenance processes in an industrial environment.Experience in ISO 17025 or ISO 9001 accredited settings.Work setup and benefitsThis role is categorized as onsite.
