ABOUT THIS POSITION

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Solar Installation Manager will oversee SunCommon's solar installation crews, ensuring they do safe and high quality work. The position requires expert communication and organization with an eye toward continuous improvement. The Solar Installation Manager plays a key role within the Operations management team to implement new initiatives and products.


Safety - for our team, our customers, and their property - is our primary priority. The Residential Installation Manager is expected to follow all safety protocols and keep up with advancements in solar and other relevant technologies with the goal of holding the installation team responsible for meeting these standards.


The position requires a person who is flexible, sets clear expectations, and is a skilled communicator. The Solar Installation Manager will spend time working on-site with our installation crews, and in Suncommon's Kingston, NY Office. A dedication to taking the best possible care of our customers and your colleagues is essential. 



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


The Solar Installation Manager will:

  •  Manage Crew Leads, Installers, including supervising employees, managing data, maintaining metrics, and developing and meeting quantitative
  • and qualitative goals (safety, efficiency, quality, productivity).
  • Participate in cross-department work to improve processes and customer experience.
  •  Communicate job status and estimated completion time on a daily basis with Residential Project Management staff via phone, email, CRM, or in-person.
  •  Ensure PV systems are installed in accordance with NYSERDA, NEC and SunCommon standards; using drawings, schematics, and instructions.
  •  Keep up-to-date on the latest code and solar installation techniques, and apply new knowledge to the job.
  • Operations Leadership. We expect significant growth and development of our programs in the coming years, driven by a strong team of leader working together to identify and meet the opportunities in front of us.
  • Tracking and Analysis. Developing systems that provide for effective tracking and staff accountability in achieving goals. Ensuring team goals are met.  
  •  Program Development. Imagining and implementing the new. The solar industry is constantly evolving- we call it the SolarCoaster- and our work has evolve with it.
  •  Hiring and Training Staff. Providing on-boarding training as well as ongoing feedback and development. Creating and maintaining training materials. A considerable amount of time is spent coaching for performance. 
  •  Staff Development. Facilitating regular 1-1 and team meetings to provide group training and individual growth. Offering support and knowing down barriers to success by providing timely, thoughtful feedback and performance reviews. Helping staff identify strengths and opportunities for development on their career path.
  •  Customer Service. Handle elevated customer situations with grace, compassion and an eye toward business sustainability. Identify areas where customer experience can be clarified and tools to make this a reality. Develop tools to track and improve customer experience.

  •  Quality Control tasks, such as NYSERDA AUDITS, Reviewing installation photos, Pre-install meeting analysis, Documenting layout.

Requirements

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Experience on roof and ground mounted PV systems.
  • NABCEP Installation Professional certification preferred.
  • Electrical license preferred (Journeyworker or Master), or relevant experience with equipment layout, conduit runs, wiring, and interconnection preferred.
  • Experience coaching teams to work together to build trust and accomplish tasks.
  • Experience inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • Experience setting up monitoring for PV systems.
  • Experience analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Experience developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience driving trucks with trailers, and operating lifts.
  • Experience determining time, costs, resources, and materials needed to perform electrical or solar work.
  • Experience providing guidance and direction to team members, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
  • Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and provide coaching and mentoring to improve knowledge or skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50lbs, bend, twist, kneel, squat, climb ladders and work in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Ability to work at heights - ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and roofs.
  • Valid driver's license and flexibility to travel throughout the Hudson Valley and the Capital regions.
