Job description

Sunblaze Energy is seeking an experienced Solar Electrical Technician / Installer to join our management team in Tucson.

This is not an entry-level solar installer position. We are looking for someone with hands-on residential solar experience and a strong electrical background who can complete standard solar and electrical installation work and train others to do the same, and troubleshoot common system issues.

The ideal candidate understands residential photovoltaic and battery storage systems, is comfortable reading plans and electrical diagrams, and has experience working with electrical equipment such as service panels, breakers, disconnects, conduit, conductors, inverters, and battery systems.

Experience with Enphase and Tesla solar and energy storage equipment is a minimum requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot, service, and maintain residential solar photovoltaic and battery storage systems.
  • Perform electrical work associated with residential solar installations in accordance with project specifications and applicable electrical codes.
  • Read and interpret plan sets, one-line diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and manufacturer documentation.
  • Install and work with conduit, conductors, breakers, disconnects, inverters, batteries, combiner equipment, and other solar electrical components.
  • Perform both high-voltage and low-voltage wiring associated with solar and energy-storage systems.
  • Identify and troubleshoot common electrical and solar system issues in the field.
  • Verify that installed equipment matches approved plans and project specifications.
  • Complete accurate residential solar site surveys, including gathering the electrical, structural, and equipment information needed for system design and permitting.
  • Assist with service calls, system repairs, equipment replacements, and installation corrections.
  • Perform rooftop solar installation work as needed while following all required safety procedures.
  • Communicate field conditions, installation issues, and needed corrections clearly with project and operations staff.
  • Maintain an organized work area and properly care for tools, materials, and equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous hands-on experience with residential solar installations and electrical work.
  • Strong working knowledge of residential electrical systems and solar PV equipment.
  • Ability to perform standard solar electrical installation work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot common electrical and solar system problems.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical diagrams, one-lines, schematics, blueprints, and solar plan sets.
  • Familiarity with NEC requirements applicable to residential solar and electrical installations.
  • Experience installing conduit, wiring, disconnects, breakers, inverters, and related electrical equipment.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and other equipment used in solar installations.
  • Ability and willingness to work on residential rooftops and in outdoor conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation are required.
  • Must own basic hand tools necessary for solar/electrical field work.
  • Must be dependable, safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a crew.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience installing or servicing Enphase solar and battery equipment.
  • Experience installing or servicing Tesla solar or battery equipment.
  • Experience with additional battery storage and inverter manufacturers.
  • Residential solar service and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience completing solar site surveys.
  • Experience working with main service panels, subpanels, service disconnects, and battery backup systems.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is more than a general solar installer. The right candidate should have enough electrical and solar experience to understand what they are looking at in the field, complete routine work correctly without constant direction, and recognize when something is not installed or operating properly.

This position is a good fit for an experienced solar electrical installer or technician who is comfortable taking responsibility for their work and the work of others while still working as part of a larger field team.
