Software Validation Engineer - Controls
Overview / Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Software Validation Engineer to ensure the robustness and performance of propulsive control systems. This role will focus on developing and implementing verification methods, creating automated test scripts, executing tests, analyzing results, and supporting the quality and reliability of automotive software.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive software validation testing, analysis, and reporting for production software, primarily in vehicle environments.
  • Validate embedded software in a vehicle testing environment.
  • Read and interpret C code to understand software functionality and its impact in a real-world testing environment.
  • Develop test cases from requirements and validate system performance.
  • Debug software issues in a real testing environment.
  • Develop, maintain, and modify Python-based automated test scripts and analysis tools.
  • Maintain legacy Python code and develop new features and code as required.
  • Accurately report issues and track progress using automated issue tracking and reporting systems such as JIRA.
  • Ensure test documents and records are properly stored and retained according to established guidelines.
  • Implement new or updated Design Verification Methods (DVMs) into the validation process.
  • Develop and maintain automated analysis and reporting methods to streamline validation efforts.
  • Manage and maintain test scripts within version control systems.
  • Apply sound engineering principles to analyze and debug complex software engineering issues across multiple software functions.
  • Present data-driven validation results.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, including Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, or a related field, or a closely related discipline.
  • 1+ years of experience in automotive embedded systems software validation or development.
  • 1+ years of experience developing and maintaining automated test scripts and analysis tools, with proficiency in Python or a similar scripting language.
  • Proficiency with automated issue tracking and reporting systems, such as JIRA.
  • 1+ years of experience with calibration methodologies and tools such as ATI Vision or ETAS INCA.
  • 1+ years of experience with CAN networks and On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) systems, including experience using related tools such as CANalyzer or PTDiag.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and debug embedded C code and/or Model-Based Design (MBD) models.
  • Experience participating in code reviews for root cause identification.
  • 1+ years of experience with module emulators and interfaces such as M5, M6, A8, A9, ETK, or XETK.
  • Ability to perform normal driving procedures on public roads in various conditions and in production vehicles.
  • Ability to analyze complex software engineering issues and apply sound engineering principles to troubleshoot and resolve issues.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of Global Product Development System (GPDS) deliverables and reporting processes.
  • Proficiency with engineering management and data analytics tools such as Excel and SharePoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical information.
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated team leadership behaviors.
  • Valid Tier II certification.
  • Understanding of vehicle structure, subsystems, and components across various powertrains, including Gasoline, Hybrid Electric, and Battery Electric Vehicles.
  • Understanding of module hardware/software architectures, including Powertrain Control Module (PCM), Hybrid Control Module (HCM), Transmission Control Module (TCM), Body Control Module (BCM), and satellite processors such as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Smart Junction Box (SJB).
  • Understanding of advanced testing methodologies and experience using specialized test equipment such as a multimeter, oscilloscope, or logic analyzer.
  • HIL experience is a plus.
