The Software Developer is an early-career role designed for individuals looking to launch their career in software development. Working alongside experienced developers, you will contribute to the design, testing, maintenance, and implementation of software solutions while developing your technical skills and gaining hands-on experience in a collaborative Agile environment. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates, co-op students transitioning to full-time work, or those beginning their professional software development journey.
 

What you will do 

Product Solution Delivery (Development) 

  • Develop, modify, maintain, and support software components based on design specifications and business requirements.
  • Participate in coding, debugging, testing, and deployment activities.
  • Assist in integrating software components and third-party solutions.
  • Resolve defects and perform maintenance activities for existing applications.
  • Follow established development standards, best practices, and coding guidelines.
  • Participate in code reviews, team discussions, and Agile ceremonies.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to deliver high-quality software solutions. 

Problem Solving and Analysis 

  • Assist in analyzing software issues and identifying solutions.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of technical documentation.
  • Troubleshoot application and production support issues with guidance from senior developers.
  • Participate in change management and release activities.
  • Learn and apply software engineering principles and design patterns. 

Quality Assurance and Testing 

  • Develop clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
  • Perform unit testing and support integration and system testing activities.
  • Assist with defect resolution and validation.
  • Support automated testing initiatives and maintain test documentation.
  • Collaborate with QA teams to ensure product quality. 

Continuous Improvement 

  • Learn new development tools, frameworks, technologies, and practices.
  • Participate in knowledge-sharing sessions and technical training.
  • Contribute ideas to improve team processes and development practices.
  • Support governance, compliance, and audit activities as required.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.

What you will bring 

  • University or College education in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-3 years of software development experience (including co-op, internship, or related work experience).
  • Experience with one or more development technologies such as:  
    • .NET (C#, ASP.NET) 
    • Java / Spring Boot 
    • SQL, Oracle, PL/SQL 
    • AWS or Cloud Platforms 
    • Git, GitLab, CI/CD tools
  • Basic understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall).
  • Basic knowledge of object-oriented programming and software design principles.
  • Familiarity with APIs, web services, and relational databases.
  • Understanding of software testing concepts and quality practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and business domains.
  • Reliability Status Security Clearance - this can only be completed with candidates who receive an offer of employment. This is a personal security status that is required as a condition of employment before an employee can gain access to Protected B information, assets or work sites as outlined by the Government of Canada  website.  The cost of submitting these checks will be covered by Canada Life.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience gained through co-op, internship, academic projects, or open-source contributions.
  • Exposure to cloud technologies, DevOps practices, containers, or automated testing tools.
  • Familiarity with financial services, insurance, or retirement systems is considered an asset.

The base salary for this position is between $59,800 - $109,700 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc). If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
