Job description

The Woodshop Instructor leads woodworking instruction at Cal Farley's Boys Ranch. This role provides hands-on, project-based learning, including a Woodworking & Furniture Construction class with Boys Ranch Independent School District (BRISD), while helping residents develop workplace ethics, practical trade skills, furniture construction expertise, and personal project management abilities. The instructor also oversees shop operations, equipment and inventory management, and ensures a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment for youth.

The instructor teaches students of BRISD during the school year as well as after school and throughout the summer with vocational programming.

- Gas supplement offered for travel to Boys Ranch

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience in woodworking, fabrication, or woodshop management required.
  • Experience teaching, mentoring, or facilitating projects with youth preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of woodworking shop safety standards and best practices.
  • Experience with CNC, CAD/design software, 3D printing, etc. preferred.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and related software.
  • Time management, organization, and attention-to-detail.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand/eye coordination, pushing/pulling, and prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Must possess a valid Texas driver's license.
  • Must be available for travel as needed.
