Because this is a management job, your duties may include coordinating and planning with other departments within the company and with company executives. In addition to management skills, you need a firm understanding of the technical aspects of software engineering. Another aspect of this career involves understanding the market and competitor’s products so that your software can compete and meet market demands.

What does a software engineering manager do?

A Software Engineering Manager oversees a team of software engineers, guiding the development of software projects from planning to implementation. They are responsible for managing the team's workflow, ensuring high-quality code, and meeting project deadlines. Job description

We are looking for a Engineering Manager to lead and scale a multidisciplinary engineering team focused on full-stack product development, data engineering, and business intelligence. You will own the people, processes, and technical direction for a group of talented engineers working in C#, SQL, Vue 3, Power BI, and modern data pipeline technologies. You are as comfortable in a 1:1 coaching conversation as you are in a technical architecture review, and you thrive when you can connect your team's work to meaningful health outcomes.

Key ResponsibilitiesPeople Leadership & Development

Directly manage a team of engineers across full-stack, data engineering, and BI disciplines

Drive performance management cycles: goal-setting, mid-year check-ins, year-end reviews, and performance improvement plans when needed

Partner with recruiting to attract, hire, and onboard top engineering talent

Build and sustain a culture of psychological safety, continuous feedback, and high accountability

Identify individual growth opportunities and create development plans tailored to each teammate's career goals

Technical Oversight

Provide technical direction and quality standards across C#/.NET backend services, SQL data models, and Vue 3 frontend applications

Oversee design, delivery, and reliability of data engineering pipelines (ETL/ELT, orchestration, data quality)

Guide the team's Power BI practice — from semantic model design to dashboard standards and self-service enablement

Participate in architecture and design reviews; ensure decisions balance speed, maintainability, and scalability

Champion engineering best practices: code review culture, automated testing, CI/CD, and observability

Delivery & Execution

Own the roadmap execution for your team's domains, partnering closely with Product and Design

Remove blockers, manage dependencies, and create predictable delivery rhythms via agile practices

Track and communicate progress, risks, and trade-offs to engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders

Drive continuous improvement in team velocity, quality, and developer experience

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Act as the engineering point-of-contact for Product, Data, and Clinical Operations stakeholders

Translate business and clinical requirements into clear technical scope and feasibility assessments

Partner with the broader engineering leadership team on org-wide standards, tooling, and planning

Required Qualifications

5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in an engineering management or team lead role

Demonstrated experience hiring engineers and conducting full-cycle technical interviews

Proven track record in performance development: delivering meaningful feedback, managing performance, and growing engineers at multiple levels

Hands-on background with C# / .NET and SQL — you can read and review code, understand architectural trade-offs, and ask the right questions

Experience leading or closely partnering with data engineering teams (pipelines, warehousing, orchestration)

Familiarity with Power BI or comparable BI platforms at a team-management level

Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks; Vue 3 or equivalent (React, Angular) is sufficient

Strong written and verbal communication skills — you write crisp specs, give direct feedback, and tailor your message to technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in healthcare, health-tech, or other regulated industries

Familiarity with FHIR, HL7, or healthcare data standards

Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms (Azure Synapse, Databricks, Snowflake, or similar)

Exposure to dbt, Apache Airflow, or other modern data orchestration tools

Background contributing to engineering culture initiatives: leveling frameworks, interview training, onboarding programs
