Summary
The Requirements Engineer serves as a requirements analyst on assigned projects, collaborating across project teams of all sizes to drive success. This role works closely with software development engineers to understand, define, and translate client challenges and goals into clear, actionable software requirements and specifications. The position spans initial software discovery and definition through ongoing development and maintenance, ensuring accurate implementation throughout. The Requirements Engineer drives successful execution of the product roadmap by guiding development efforts and supporting adoption.

What You'll Do:

  • Conducting requirements-gathering sessions with numerous stakeholders for what the future-state solution should provide.
  • Analyzing business workflows and assessing how automated systems can be leveraged to implement those.
  • Documenting accurate notes and communicating decisions, action items and next steps for requirements gathering to team members after meetings.
  • Organizing the requirements into feature-sets and prioritizing them into 'mandatory' versus 'desired' buckets.
  • Collaborate with the Yahara Technical Lead for solution foothold and initial approach.
  • Converting requirements and solution design into stories and tasks for estimation, development, and testing.
  • Tracking requirements as they progress through development activities and keep inventory of remaining requirements to implement.
  • Utilization of rapid prototyping tools to facilitate development and maximize usability of application features.
  • Utilization of requirements analysis tools such as flow charts, sequence diagrams, entity relationship diagrams etc.
  • Working as liaison between Yahara and its clients to gather testing feedback and prioritizing bug fixes.
  • Be able to lead scrum cadences such as stand ups, backlog grooming and estimation, sprint planning and sprint close demos.
  • Staying up to date and incorporating learnings from IIBA, or other industry standard entities, for software development best practices.
  • Supporting Requirements Engineering team leadership in Yahara's Requirements Practice development efforts.
  • Working in collaboration with technical team and project coordinator for requirements gathering and story definition.

What You'll Bring:

  • 4-year college degree in Computer Science, Business or a field related to STEM or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience working on IT applications in a Requirements Engineer or Business Analyst role or demonstratable experience with IT application requirements gathering and documentation via application solution development, design, documentation or testing.
  • Exceptional analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, actionable insights.
  • Familiarity with user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) concepts.
  • Experience working within the software development lifecycle in an Agile environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience delivering formal presentations.
  • Proven interpersonal, collaborative, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • A high degree of initiative and ownership, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and cultivate lasting relationships; proven experience working effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to identify roadblocks, escalate appropriately, and drive issues to resolution.
  • Familiar with AI uses within the requirements workflow to speed up research, draft documentation, and structure initial user stories.
  • Application of critical judgment to AI-generated output, validating it against client conversations and domain knowledge before relying on it.
  • Actively looks for better tool uses or approaches and proposes them.
