Toyota Financial Services is seeking a Software Engineering, Lead (Software Engineering Manager) to lead feature-level execution and guide a small team within our dealer and consumer digital platforms. This role balances hands-on engineering with technical leadership and delivery ownership and includes people management responsibilities where applicable.
The ideal candidate is a strong engineer who can design and deliver high-quality solutions, mentor others, and ensure features are production-ready, scalable, and aligned with Toyota's engineering standards.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Software Engineering, Lead you will Lead end-to-end delivery of features and services, from architecture and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Design and build scalable, resilient, and fault-tolerant services and APIs supporting dealer and customer-facing experiences.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance on best practices, code quality, and design decisions.
  • Own feature-level architecture for capabilities such as PreQual, Pricing, Incentives, or Funding.
  • Coordinate functional, integration, performance, and production-readiness activities to ensure reliable delivery.
  • Partner closely with Product, UX, and cross-functional teams to translate business priorities into scalable technical solutions.
  • Support dealer integrations and operate high-availability production systems with a strong reliability mindset.
  • Contribute to hiring, mentoring, and team culture, helping grow technical depth and collaboration.
  • Foster adherence to Toyota engineering standards, resiliency practices, and operational discipline.

What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of features or services in production.
  • Strong hands-on experience developing Java-based services using modern frameworks such as Spring Boot.
  • Experience designing and consuming REST, GraphQL, and event-driven APIs in enterprise environments.
  • Practical AWS experience, including ECS, Fargate, serverless components, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience building and supporting highly available, customer-facing applications and distributed systems.
  • Hands-on frontend experience with modern frameworks such as React, Next.js, or Vue, with the ability to review, troubleshoot, and contribute to UI components when needed.
  • Strong understanding of full-stack application design, including optimizing APIs for UI consumption, latency, payload efficiency, and clear interface contracts.
  • Understanding of application data flows, including how feature-level data is persisted, exchanged through APIs and events, and consumed across systems.
  • Strong quality mindset with experience in automated, functional, integration, and performance testing.
  • Strong troubleshooting and production-support skills, including observability, root-cause analysis, and performance optimization.
  • Ability to mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience in automotive, lending, financial services, or digital commerce, particularly dealer or loan-origination platforms.
  • Experience designing event-driven and distributed architectures supporting high-volume transactional systems.
  • Experience balancing hands-on engineering with technical leadership responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with observability platforms such as Splunk, Dynatrace, CloudWatch, or similar tools.
