🚀 Senior Software Engineer IV (Grid & Enterprise Systems)

Location: San Antonio, TX (Remote)

Job Type: Full-Time | Senior-Level

About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned Software Engineer IV to join our Technology & Digital Innovation team. In this senior individual-contributor role, you will be instrumental in designing, modernizing, and maintaining mission-critical enterprise applications and data systems that power critical regional infrastructure.

As a Software Engineer IV, you will operate as a technical authority—bridging complex software architecture with operational needs. You will design scalable cloud and on-premise solutions, streamline high-volume data integrations, and lead technical execution to ensure unmatched reliability and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architecture & Development: Architect, build, and deploy robust, high-availability software applications and microservices to support critical utility operations and enterprise workflows.
  • System Integration: Lead complex API development and middleware integrations across legacy systems, cloud platforms, SCADA/IoT environments, and third-party enterprise tools.
  • Technical Leadership: Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor to junior/mid-level engineers, enforcing high coding standards, code reviews, and architectural consistency.
  • Reliability & Performance: Identify performance bottlenecks, enforce system security best practices, and implement automated monitoring/CI-CD pipelines to ensure 99.99%+ operational uptime.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner directly with Product Managers, Data Engineers, Cybersecurity leads, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into seamless digital products.

Basic Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience: 7+ years of hands-on experience in full-lifecycle software engineering, systems design, and cloud integration.
  • Technical Stack Expertise:
  • Strong proficiency in modern programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C#, or Go).
  • In-depth experience with Cloud Infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Demonstrated expertise with relational and non-relational databases (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MongoDB) and complex SQL querying.
  • Experience designing RESTful APIs, event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ), and modern CI/CD pipelines.
  • Problem-Solving & Composure: Proven track record of evaluating legacy systems, driving modernization, and resolving complex technical issues under tight deadlines.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Prior experience in the Utilities, Energy, Smart Grid, Logistics, or Transportation industries.
  • Experience integrating software with SCADA, GIS, Smart Metering (AMI), or OT (Operational Technology) systems.
  • Background in infrastructure automation (Terraform, Ansible) and modern DevOps practices.
  • Exposure to modern AI/ML tooling or process automation platforms to optimize operations.

Why Join Us?

  • Work with Purpose: Your code will directly impact the daily lives of hundreds of thousands of people by powering essential regional infrastructure.
  • Innovation Meets Scale: Tackle unique engineering challenges that sit at the intersection of modern cloud tech and critical operational platforms.
  • Growth & Impact: Autonomy to lead high-visibility technical projects with ample room for continuous professional development.
