What does a software development software engineer do?

A Software Development Software Engineer designs, develops, tests, and maintains software applications or systems. They work with various programming languages and technologies to create software solutions that meet user or business needs. Their responsibilities often include writing code, debugging issues, collaborating with other team members, and ensuring software quality and performance. Software Engineers may also participate in planning, code reviews, and updating documentation to support ongoing software projects.

What is the difference between Software Development Software Engineer vs Software Developer?

AspectSoftware Development Software EngineerSoftware Developer
CredentialsBachelor's in CS or related field, certifications optionalBachelor's in CS or related field, certifications optional
Work EnvironmentCollaborative teams, Agile/Scrum settings, cross-functional projectsIndividual or team projects, coding-focused tasks
Industry UsageUsed across tech companies, startups, and large enterprisesCommon in software firms, tech startups, and freelance work
Search & Comparison IntentOften compared for roles involving system design and architectureTypically searched for coding and application development roles

While both roles involve software creation, a Software Development Software Engineer often focuses on system design, architecture, and collaborative project management, whereas a Software Developer primarily concentrates on coding and implementing software solutions. The engineer role may require broader technical knowledge and involvement in the development lifecycle, making it suitable for those interested in both design and coding aspects of software projects.

How do software development software engineers typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

Software Development Software Engineers often work closely with product managers, designers, and quality assurance teams to deliver well-rounded solutions. Collaboration usually involves attending regular stand-up meetings, participating in sprint planning, and conducting code reviews. Effective communication and a willingness to incorporate feedback from various stakeholders are key to ensuring project goals are met and potential issues are identified early. Building strong relationships with colleagues in different roles can also streamline the development process and foster a positive team environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a software development software engineer?

To thrive as a Software Development Software Engineer, you need proficiency in programming languages (such as Python, Java, or C++), problem-solving abilities, and typically a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems (like Git), integrated development environments (IDEs), and knowledge of software development methodologies (such as Agile or Scrum) are commonly required. Strong collaboration, communication, and adaptability are essential soft skills for working effectively in team environments and responding to project changes. These skills and qualities are crucial for building reliable, maintainable software and contributing to successful, dynamic development projects.

AI Development Software Engineer

Redefine how software is built using AI to dramatically increase speed and quality.

We are looking for an AI Development Software Engineer to strengthen our Digital Solutions team. We are looking for a hands‑on software engineer who already uses AI‑tools as a serious part of their development workflow to ship quality software faster.

Join us in our mission to fundamentally transform how we build software. In this role, you will use AI coding assistants, agents, automated testing support, documentation generation and modern development tools as a core part of your engineering workflow to significantly accelerate delivery, improve quality, and enable faster innovation.

This role is not an ML research or data scientist role primarily about building AI‑based products. Instead, it is about using AI to step‑change how software is engineered, enabling faster delivery of both internal tools and customer‑facing solutions.

Why this role is exciting

You will have the opportunity to shape how modern software development is done in a real industrial technology environment. You will work with production systems, experienced engineering teams and real business problems.

You will help define practical AI‑assisted development standards, test new tools, create reusable workflows and influence how teams build software in the future.

What will you be doing in this role?
  • Use AI tools and agents as a primary part of your development workflow alt: Use AI tools like Claude code, Copilot, etc as an integrated/primary part of your workflow
  • Build software faster and more efficiently by leveraging AI‑assisted coding, testing, and debugging
  • Design and implement internal tools, templates, workflows and automation and products, where AI is used to accelerate development
  • Apply rapid, iterative, user‑focused development practices
  • Use AI‑based test automation and validation (e.g. test agents) to ensure high quality
  • Continuously identify and implement ways to reduce development time while maintaining engineering standards
  • Turning AI capabilities into practical improvements in developer productivity and delivery speed
  • Mentor and support colleagues in adopting AI‑first development practices
Who are we looking for?
  • Uses AI as a natural and integrated part of how they develop software
  • Can demonstrate significantly increased development speed through AI tools
  • Has strong software engineering fundamentals (architecture, APIs, maintainability, testing, production readiness)
  • Understands how to balance speed, quality, and long‑term maintainability
  • Is pragmatic and focused on delivering real solutions
  • Can translate new tools and approaches into real improvements in how teams work
  • Collaborates effectively with product managers, developers, and commercial stakeholders
  • Enjoys mentoring others and improving team capabilities
Requirements
  • Bachelors degree or higher in Computer engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience with software development.
  • Experience with coding assistants and agents like Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, etc.
  • Locations: Houston, Tx-Kristiansand-Norway/Macae-Brazil
