A Software Engineer Independent Contractor is a self-employed professional who provides software development services to clients on a contractual basis. Unlike full-time employees, independent contractors work on specific projects, often for multiple clients, and handle their own taxes, benefits, and work schedules. They may be responsible for designing, coding, testing, and maintaining software solutions based on client requirements. This role offers flexibility and autonomy but requires strong time management and business skills.

To thrive as a Software Engineer Independent Contractor, you need proficient coding abilities, problem-solving skills, and a solid understanding of software development methodologies, often supported by a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with popular programming languages, project management tools, code repositories like Git, and relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Developer or Scrum Master are commonly expected. Excellent self-management, communication, and client relationship skills help you stand out in this position. These abilities are crucial for delivering high-quality solutions, maintaining professionalism, and ensuring client satisfaction while working independently.

What are the typical challenges faced by software engineer independent contractors, and how can they be addressed?

As a Software Engineer Independent Contractor, common challenges include managing multiple projects simultaneously, adapting to different client expectations, and ensuring consistent communication across remote teams. Successful contractors often establish clear project scopes, set realistic timelines, and utilize productivity tools to stay organized. Building strong client relationships and proactively addressing feedback can help mitigate misunderstandings and foster repeat business. Additionally, investing in ongoing learning and networking can open opportunities for higher-value projects and career growth. Embracing flexibility and self-discipline is key to thriving in this dynamic, self-driven work environment.

Contractor

Re-posted 7 days ago

Job description

Overview

The Little Gym and Snapology of West Boise (TLG/SNAP) is seeking motivated, reliable, and enthusiastic independent contractors to deliver high-quality STEM instruction to children ages 3 to 14 years.

Contractors will lead engaging classes in a fun, supportive learning environment that promotes confidence, creativity, and development.

  • Classes are typically one hour in length, scheduled back to back, and recur weekly across multiple sites.
  • Camps are typically 3 hours in length, Monday through Friday, in June, July, and August from 9am to noon or 1pm to 4pm, and are hosted at our facility in Garden City.
  • Birthdays are typically 1.5 hours in length on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and are hosted at our facility in Garden City.

This opportunity is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children, value flexible scheduling, and are interested in operating as independent service providers. The ideal candidate is available to perform instruction on a recurring basis, although a partial schedule could be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish recurring STEM class at local school or other appropriate sites with administration/owners (for mobile classes).
  • Facilitate structured STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) programs in alignment with brand curricula (for camps, on-site classes, and birthdays).
  • Create a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment for children and families.
  • Communicate professionally with parents and staff regarding student progress and class logistics.
  • Arrive prepared, on time, and ready to deliver assigned sessions.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation related to scheduling, availability, and services rendered.

Contractor Requirements

  • Experience working with children in education, coaching, recreation, or related fields.
  • Ability to lead groups of children with energy, patience, and professionalism.
  • Reliable transportation and consistent availability. It is imperative to provide your classes each week to have a consistent and trusting experience for our children.
  • Willingness to operate as an independent contractor (1099), including managing personal tax obligations.
  • Background check clearance.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Engagement Structure

  • Contractors set availability and accept opportunities based on their schedules.
  • Compensation is per class or event and is paid via 1099.
  • Contractors are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and required certifications.
  • Curriculum, training resources, equipment, and class locations are provided.
  • Clients, enrollments, and marketing of opportunities are provided.

What We Offer

  • Flexible scheduling with no minimum requirement to participate (teach one class each week or teach several classes each week, with consistency).
  • Competitive per-offering compensation.
  • Ongoing training and curriculum support.
  • A fun, upbeat environment where your work directly supports children and families.

How to Apply

Please submit your resume and a brief introduction describing your experience with children and interest in independent contract instruction.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
