Position Title: IT Specialist
Reports To: Manager of IT
Location: Plano, TX
Position Type: Full-Time

Description

The IT Specialist is responsible for providing end-user support, maintaining and improving IT infrastructure, administering core business technology systems, and assisting with strategic IT projects. This role serves as a technical resource for employees across the organization and works closely with internal stakeholders, vendors, and managed service providers to ensure reliable and secure technology operations.

The ideal candidate is a well-rounded IT professional with experience in systems administration, endpoint management, user support, infrastructure maintenance, and technology project implementation.

Essential Responsibilities

End User Support

  • Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 technical support for hardware, software, mobile devices, printers, and business applications.
  • Respond to and resolve help desk tickets in a timely manner while maintaining excellent customer service.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Windows operating systems, Microsoft 365 applications, connectivity, and general user productivity tools.
  • Support employee onboarding, offboarding, and account lifecycle management.
  • Assist users with equipment setup, office relocations, and technology training as needed.

Systems Administration

  • Administer and support Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Entra ID.
  • Maintain Active Directory, Group Policy, user accounts, permissions, and security groups.
  • Support Windows Server infrastructure, including monitoring, patching, upgrades, and routine maintenance.
  • Assist with virtualization platforms, server deployments, storage systems, and backup solutions.
  • Monitor system performance and proactively address issues impacting business operations.

Infrastructure and Security

  • Assist in managing network infrastructure, including switches, wireless access points, firewalls, VPN connectivity, and internet services.
  • Support endpoint management, operating system deployment, software installation, and patch management processes.
  • Participate in cybersecurity initiatives, including endpoint protection, vulnerability remediation, access reviews, and security awareness efforts.
  • Maintain IT documentation, asset inventories, and technology standards.

Projects and Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in IT projects, including system migrations, infrastructure upgrades, software implementations, and process improvements.
  • Coordinate with vendors and service providers to implement and support business technology solutions.
  • Assist with planning, testing, deployment, and documentation of new technologies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve IT operations, automation, and user experience.

Business Systems Support

  • Support business-critical applications, including ERP, WMS, and other operational systems.
  • Coordinate with software vendors and third-party support providers to troubleshoot application issues.
  • Assist with application upgrades, testing, user training, and documentation.
  • Serve as a liaison between business users and external support resources when necessary.
  • Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by management.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; equivalent work experience may be substituted.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in IT support, systems administration, or infrastructure support roles.
  • Experience supporting Windows desktop and server environments.
  • Experience administering Microsoft 365 and Active Directory/Entra ID environments.
  • Experience with endpoint deployment and management.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, networking, and business applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and customer service skills.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V preferred.
  • Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions preferred.
  • Experience with networking technologies, including switches, firewalls, VLANs, VPNs, and wireless networks preferred.
  • Experience supporting ERP, WMS, CRM, or other enterprise business applications preferred.
  • Familiarity with PowerShell scripting and automation preferred.
  • Experience working in regulated environments, including FDA, ISO, or SOX environments, preferred.
  • Microsoft, VMware, Cisco, or other relevant industry certifications are a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move computers, monitors, and related equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
  • Ability to walk throughout the facility to provide onsite technical support.
  • Ability to occasionally work after hours during maintenance windows, upgrades, or critical support situations.
