Job description

Software Quality Engineer (Associate or Experienced)

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Software Quality Engineer (Associate or Experienced) to join our Software Quality Engineering team in Tukwila, WA or Kent, WA.

As a member of this Boeing Software Quality team, you have the autonomy and responsibility to work with programs to ensure the required processes are used for developing, controlling, and verifying software products, whether developed by Boeing or provided by suppliers. This position will support programs within the BDS Derivatives division.

The successful candidate for this position will have a broad background in software development practices, tools and processes combined with a passion for advocating First Time Quality strategies. Experience and knowledge of quality standards (e.g. AS9100 / AS9115) is strongly preferred.

The ideal candidate will be a team player, self-motivated and able to quickly learn the responsibilities of the position. Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills, are crucial for success. Candidates should possess resilience and the ability to provide and receive constructive feedback. This position will also require the ability to demonstrate and assertively communicate their boundaries while fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Defines and maintains program-level software quality engineering processes, resources, and infrastructure
  • Actively participates in program activities, from initial proposal and planning to verification/certification and delivery
  • Performs process and product audits to verify software lifecycle activities and products comply with approved software processes, plans, and standards
  • Supports program milestone and formal review meetings, occasionally preparing and presenting information
  • Participates in configuration management activities
  • Plans software quality test activities and completion of test readiness activities
  • Ensures integrity of the test process and verifies test results
  • Works with regulatory agencies and other functions to develop criteria and procedures for software delivery activities
  • Performs final reconciliation of software data products
  • Identifies process or product non-compliances; supports root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions and other defect investigation/prevention activities
  • Teams with equipment managers of supplier products to monitor and evaluate supplier software development performance
  • Acts as an independent set of eyes and ears for Program Managers and the customer, highlighting potential best practices on the team, as well as areas for improvement
  • Supports the identification and analysis of program/project software quality metrics to improve software quality and manage risk

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science (or greater) from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry, or other technical degree
  • Ability to acquire a U.S. Secret Security Clearance (Post-Start)
  • 1+ years of experience with Software Development lifecycle (including Requirements Analysis, Design, Code, Integration & Test)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1+ years' experience in Quality Management Systems (QMS)
  • Experience with products developed using Agile software development practices
  • Experience with DevSecOps and associated tools
  • Software quality engineering experience supporting software with AS9115 and DO-178 requirements

Travel: Some travel may be required up to 10% of the time.
