Position Description
The Custom Equipment Design/Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical systems, components, and products, ensuring they meet our company's quality and performance standards. This role will provide technical assistance with onsite visits to aid in troubleshooting or collaboration of custom solutions. Provide preliminary drawings, calculations, sizing of equipment and design/hours to assist in estimating.
The Custom Equipment Design/Engineer will work on projects in multiple industry areas within Tweet Garot. Solid understanding of metal fabrication & welding practices is necessary.
Position Requirements
Description of Duties:
Technical Requirements
• Product Design: Conceptualize, design, and develop mechanical components and systems for new and existing products. Ensure the designs are both functional and manufacturable.
• CAD Modeling: Proficient in using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor) to create conceptual and detailed 3D models and 2D drawings. Collaborate with the design team for accurate documentation and use of T/G CED modeling, drawing and numbering standards.
• Prototype (R&D) Development: Work with the CED manager and R&D team to create and test physical prototypes of designed components. Iterate designs based on feedback and performance.
• Material Selection: Evaluate and select appropriate materials for various applications, taking into consideration cost, strength, and environmental factors. To include but not limited to structural member load calculations.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including estimating, manufacturing teams, account managers and project managers. Work in conjunction with the CED manager in the design of project solutions and fabrication documents with focus on accuracy, clarity, and constructability.
Key Responsibilities
• Must have the ability to lead, communicate and give direction to design team members
• Manage projects from initial customer contact thru installation assistance with minimal supervision
• Follows Tweet/Garot CED modeling, drawing and numbering standards
• Provide preliminary drawings, calculations, sizing of equipment and design/hours to assist in estimating
• Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials and other physical sciences to complete drawings
• Communicates with the shop fabrication team to troubleshoot and resolve issues
• Willing to learn new processes in the industry such as: Autodesk ReCap, Navisworks, Autodesk Revit, Faro Scene, etc.,
• Research and develop new methods & tools to improve the product and development process
Preferred Knowledge, Experience & Skills Requirements:
• A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical design and product development.
• Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Vault and Inventor) and a strong understanding of design principles.
• Strong problem solving and analytical abilities, with the capability to troubleshoot and refine designs.
• Experience of being a team leader
• Ability to multi-task
• Experience with 3D laser scanning
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration and documentation.
• 10+ years of experience in the food and beverage/sanitary industries.
• 10+ years of experience utilizing Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD or comparable software to generate 3D models
• Structural engineering background with Wisconsin PE a plus
• Working knowledge of Autodesk Vault or similar software systems.
• Understanding of metal fabrication & welding practices.
• Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and Viewpoint.
• Proven record of remaining organized and taking action with difficult situation or projects.
• Able to effectively define, manage, and communicate priorities.
• Self-motivated, open-minded, results and action-oriented.
