Job Title

Software Engineer – Payments API Platform (Real Time & Event Driven)

Location

Jacksonville, FL

Job Summary

FIS Management Services, LLC is seeking a senior‑level Software Engineer to design, develop and govern a company‑wide payments API and event platform. This role entails defining canonical models, structured data contracts, and versioning to ensure interoperability and audit readiness for digital transaction integrations.

Key responsibilities include evaluating complex business requirements, designing scalable cloud‑based solutions, leading the architecture and operation of 24×7 low‑latency services, establishing security architectures, and driving performance and reliability engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and govern the company’s payments API and event platform, defining canonical models, structured data contracts, and versioning.
  • Evaluate system specifications to address complex business requirements and prepare computer‑based solutions that ensure scalability and resilience.
  • Lead the architecture and operation of 24×7×365 low‑latency services with documented availability objectives, active‑active patterns, and automated failover.
  • Establish and enforce security architecture for digital transactions using recognized frameworks, tokenization, and hardware‑backed key management, and implement OAuth2.0, JWT, TLS, RBAC, and secrets management.
  • Integrate strong customer authentication to achieve zero high‑severity audit findings, SAST/DAST ≥90% coverage, and 100% on‑schedule key rotations.
  • Design and develop RESTful and event‑driven APIs using Java/SpringBoot, .NETCore, Node.js, and PythonFlask with automated CI/CD pipelines.
  • Set up a reliability engineering program for APIs and event pipelines by defining SLIs/SLOs, implementing error‑budget governance, standardizing runbooks, chaos‑testing, and improving health metrics.
  • Implement end‑to‑end observability with traces, metrics, and logs, including correlation and golden‑signal dashboards.
  • Engineer transaction integrity through idempotency, deduplication, replay/retry semantics, and safe‑retry keys to deliver exactly‑once‑like outcomes.
  • Own API spec governance for synchronous HTTP and asynchronous events, including compatibility rules, deprecation policy, and contract/conformance tests.
  • Drive performance engineering for high throughput, low latency services through partitioning, indexing, memory/GC tuning, and hot‑path optimizations.
  • Lead structured data migration and interoperability initiatives, including mapping guides, reconciliation controls, and cutover/rollback plans.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation – API specs, integration guides, SDKs, and test harnesses.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, compliance, and operations to translate requirements into measurable outcomes, chair design/risk reviews for ADRs, threat models, data classification, and segregation of duties.
  • Verify program logic by preparing and executing representative test data in lower/UAT environments.
  • Plan and oversee program‑level deliverables, managing dependencies, technical risks, and cross‑team cutovers.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Ten (10)years of progressively responsible experience in engineering complex systems, developing cloud‑based solutions, and designing RESTful or event‑driven APIs using Java/SpringBoot (or equivalent).
  • Experience implementing industry‑standard security in APIs, including OAuth2.0, JWT, TLS encryption, role‑based access controls, and secrets management.
  • Experience establishing security architecture using tokenization, hardware‑backed key management, and validated cryptographic modules.
  • Strong understanding of scalability, resilience, and low‑latency design for 24×7 services.
  • Proficiency with automated CI/CD pipelines for API development.
  • Knowledge of reliability engineering concepts: SLIs/SLOs, error‑budget governance, runbooks, chaos testing, and observability (traces, metrics, logs).
  • Familiarity with performance‑engineering techniques: partitioning, indexing, memory/GC tuning, and hot‑path optimizations.
  • Experience with structured data migration and interoperability strategies, including mapping guides and reconciliation controls.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in the above fields with eight (8)years of related experience.
  • Telecommuting and/or working‑from‑home flexibility in accordance with company policies.
