About Us
B amp;L Information Systems has been a leading provider of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software for the foundry and die casting industries since 1976. Headquartered in Bridgman, MI, we deliver a reliable, cloud-based, industry-leading solution backed by a highly experienced team of business professionals.
Summary/Objective
The objective of this role is to contribute to the continued growth and success of our SaaS ERP platform by developing reliable, efficient, and user-focused applications. The Software Developer will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive innovation, improve system performance, and deliver technology solutions that meet evolving business and customer needs.
Essential Functions:
  1. Develop backend business application logic to support B amp;L’s Odyssey ERP primarily using the Progress ABL.
  2. Develop application components, internal systems, and other components of B amp;L’s software packages.
  3. Write detail design documents for new features, functions, and modules to be included in B amp;L's software or internal application systems.
  4. Design database components used by the application.
  5. Write clear and concise documentation and other reference materials for any features, functions, and modules coded.
  6. Write clear and concise high-level module scope documents.
  7. Perform detailed testing of coded features, functions, and modules.
  8. Work with the support team to perform detailed 2nd level support for customer reported issues.
  9. Assist the QA team with version release testing including formal regression tests.
  10. Continued education and learning of Odyssey's processes and functions.
  11. Continued education in software development, specifically environments used by B amp;L.
  12. Provide knowledge transfer and enhancement training to B amp;L staff through internal classes.
  13. Provide regular enhancement training to B amp;L’s customers through one-on-one training, webinars, and classes.
  14. Assist in troubleshooting customer reported issues.
Software Engineer Skills and Qualifications:
  1. Expert in a modern application development language
  2. Familiar with SOLID principles of software development.
  3. Familiar with object-oriented programming concepts.
  4. Familiar with version control systems.
  5. Understanding and proficient in database design concepts.
  6. Understanding of modern User Experience design paradigms.
  7. Proficient in keyboarding.
  8. Proficient in technical writing and documentation.
  9. Proficient in Microsoft Office products and the Windows operating system.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
  1. Expert in at least one modern object-oriented programming language such as C#, TypeScript/JavaScript, or Python.
  2. Experience with the Progress Advanced Business Language for B amp;L’s business application environment
  3. Experience with modern front-end frameworks such as Angular, Vue, or React.
  4. Proficient in browser-based technologies, languages, and features including LESS/SASS/SCSS, CSS3, and HTML5 APIs (localStorage, video, canvas, etc.).
  5. Experience with the .NET Framework or .NET Core platforms.
  6. Experience with version control systems.
  7. Understanding of HTTP REST APIs and JSON and how they are used to communicate between programs.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment at B amp;L’s Bridgman offices. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and copiers.
We offer a Hybrid work-from-home (WFH) schedule. The hybrid work schedule allows the employee to work from home on a regular basis at the discretion of the employee’s manager.
Compensation
  • $80K-$93K base Salary
  • This is a bonus eligible position.
  • Candidates can expect salary offers that range from the minimum to the midpoint of the salary range.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position where the workweek’s standard schedule will be Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm excluding B amp;L holidays.
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required outside of the standard and custom schedule as job duties demand.

Some travel is expected for this position.
