JACKSON COUNTY, GEORGIA
CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION
CLASSIFICATION TITLE: REGISTRATION ASSISTANT
Elections and Voters Registration
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to assist with duties and responsibilities of all voter registration processes, assist in training deputy registrars and parties on voter drives to ensure the County complies with applicable laws and regulations concerning the secured storage and use of all voter registration-related documentation and/or equipment. Work is performed under the direction of the Director, Assistant Director and Registration Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Assists the office with phones, voters, filing, and auditing.
Processes voter registration information received by the office; ensures voter registration applications are complete and accurate; corrects card information by researching through the State database to transfer voters from other counties, reactivate voters, and add new voters; file cards received.
Prints state issued reports summarizing voters registered in other counties or state; prepares and mails letters and applications to out of county and state voters.
Assist with audits to maintain cards in appropriate files.
Processes reports to verify registration information including those registered though the Department of Public Safety, deceased voters, active/inactive voters in the County, active voters by precinct, and related information.
Receives and responds to inquiries from citizens and voters regarding the registration and voting process; provides information on where to obtain application cards and procedures; assist in completing applications.
Assist in maintaining street indexing to provide voters with various information regarding what precinct, commissioner district, school board, and/or fire district they are registered.
Preforms routine clerical tasks for the department, receives and responds to incoming calls, provides information to callers, copies documents, faxes information; maintains files, scans voter cards to verify signatures, provides voters with photo identification cards.
Assist in planning regional meetings, state training, and poll worker appreciation activities.
Operates a personal computer, printer, fax machine, copier, GARVIS, State photo ID system, scanner and other equipment necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database or other system software.
Assist in researching absentee ballot requests to verify information, mail absentee applications to voter, mail absentee ballots to all qualified voters, verifies and issues credit for completed ballots, assist in processing early and advanced voting.
Assist with early voting and Election Day procedures; including set-up, take down which may require standing for long periods, lifting, kneeling, standing and stooping.
Assist in various duties associated with Logic and Accuracy Testing.
Assist in preparing polling locations before and after elections and associated duties and procedures.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of election and registration laws, wards and district, report preparation, policies and procedures and methods as required in the performance of duties.
Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the Board of Elections.
Knowledge of the terminology used within the department.
Ability to compile, organize, prepare, and maintain an assortment of records, reports and information in an effective manner and according to departmental and/or governmental regulations.
Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, and other staff members.
Ability to use independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations.
Ability to perform required mathematical calculations.
Ability to utilize and understand computer applications and techniques as necessary in the completion of daily assignments.
Ability to plan, organizes and/or prioritize daily assignments and work activities.
Ability to comprehend and apply regulations and procedures of the department.
Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy equipment on a regular basis.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Degree or a minimum of two election years related experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
Dual language (English/Spanish) in both written and oral communication is preferred.
Must possess or be able to acquire Notary Public status.
Must obtain Georgia Election & Registration Official Certification (GEROC) within 1 year of hire date and maintain throughout employment.
Must possess a valid driver's license.

ADA COMPLIANCE
Physical Ability: Tasks require the regular and often times, sustained performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing, kneeling, stooping, crouching and crawling; and will involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, of objects and materials of moderately heavy weight (65 pounds), including heavy wheeled cart (400-800 pounds). May require long periods of standing.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Most tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
