Job description

Waste Connections has an immediate opening for an Administrative Assistant to support daily operations at our landfill Walnut, MS.
Responsibilities
  • Minimum of 2 years of previous administrative or office support experience.
  • Provide administrative support to landfill management and operations personnel.
  • Greet and assist customers, contractors, and vendors in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Answer multi-line phones, direct calls, and respond to customer inquiries.
  • Process landfill transactions, tickets, payments, and receipts accurately.
  • Maintain customer accounts and update information for billing and reporting purposes.
  • Assist with accounts payable, purchase orders, and invoice processing.
  • Prepare reports, spreadsheets, correspondence, and other documentation as needed.
  • Maintain landfill records and support regulatory compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate with customer service, dispatch, accounting, and operations teams to resolve customer concerns and service issues.
  • Research and assist with customer billing inquiries and disputes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to become proficient with company software and proprietary operating systems.
  • Effectively communicate operational issues, customer concerns, and opportunities for improvement to management.
  • Support employee onboarding paperwork, recordkeeping, and miscellaneous HR-related administrative tasks.
  • Promote Waste Connections' commitment to safety, environmental compliance, and operational excellence.
  • Maintain filing systems and ensure accuracy of data entry and records management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements: The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and general office software.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working in transportation, waste, landfill, construction, logistics, or industrial environments preferred.
  • Accounts payable or bookkeeping experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable working in an office environment located at an active landfill operation.
  • Experience with scale house systems, ticketing, or cash handling is a plus but not required.
