Job description

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Anduril Battlespace Awareness Radar team develops innovative and differentiated radar solutions to tackle significant security challenges for America and its allies. We are looking for highly collaborative leaders who will bring significant expertise, experience, and energy to the team's endeavors.

ABOUT THE JOB

Anduril is seeking an experienced Software Director to lead the Battlespace Radar Software team. The ideal candidate is a proven technical leader who can set vision, build and scale high-performing teams, and deliver mission-critical software across our radar product portfolio. This role requires a rare blend of deep technical expertise across embedded systems, signal processing, and edge software, paired with the leadership skills to drive execution across multiple programs and heterogeneous hardware platforms.

You will own the strategy, roadmap, and delivery for all software running on our radar systems-from FPGA-adjacent firmware integration and embedded Linux platforms to signal processing pipelines, fleet deployment, and operational tooling. You will partner closely with hardware, firmware, systems, and program leadership to bring next-generation radar capabilities to the field.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Technical Leadership & Vision: Define and execute the software strategy and architectural roadmap for the radar product line, ensuring alignment with broader Anduril platform goals, mission needs, and customer requirements.
  • Team Building & Management: Recruit, mentor, and grow a world-class software organization spanning embedded systems, signal processing, edge deployment, and DevSecOps. Build a culture of ownership, technical excellence, and rapid execution.
  • Program Execution & Delivery: Own end-to-end software delivery across multiple radar programs, including planning, resourcing, milestone tracking, and risk management. Ensure on-time delivery of high-quality, field-deployable software.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with hardware, firmware, RF, systems engineering, product, and program management leaders to ensure seamless integration of software with radar hardware and broader Anduril systems (e.g., Lattice).
  • Edge Software & DevSecOps: Drive the strategy for deploying, managing, and securing software running on embedded, heterogeneous processors within our radar systems-including fleet-wide updates for devices with intermittent or contested connectivity.
  • Security & Compliance (DevSecOps): Champion security best practices across the software lifecycle, including STIG compliance, kernel hardening (ASLR, CFI, secure boot), software supply chain security, and robust controls on embedded hardware. Ensure programs meet customer and regulatory cybersecurity requirements.
  • CI/CD & Developer Productivity: Set the direction for CI/CD infrastructure (e.g., CircleCI) and developer tooling that enables rapid, reliable build, test, and deployment of software to edge devices.
  • Operating Systems & Platforms: Guide the strategy for embedded Linux distributions (Yocto, NixOS) optimized for performance, reliability, and security on ARM and GPU architectures.
  • Heterogeneous Architecture Strategy: Lead software execution across our diverse hardware platform, including:
    • Nvidia Jetson: Deployment, optimization, and management of software on Nvidia Jetson GPUs.
    • FPGAs: Integration with HDL firmware for FPGAs (Altera Agilex, Xilinx Ultrascale) and C++ applications for soft processors, leveraging toolchains such as Quartus and Vivado.
    • CPU Architectures: Software delivery and lifecycle management on ARM CPU platforms.
  • Operational Excellence: Establish standards, processes, and metrics for code quality, reliability, observability, and field support. Lead troubleshooting and incident response for fielded systems.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 5+ years leading and managing software teams, including managing managers or large IC organizations.
  • Track record of delivering complex, mission-critical software on embedded or edge systems, ideally in defense, aerospace, robotics, or comparable domains.
  • Deep technical foundation in Linux internals, embedded systems, and system-level software architecture.
  • Experience driving DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD (e.g., CircleCI), declarative configuration management (Nix/NixOS preferred), and containerization (Docker) in resource-constrained edge environments.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles for embedded and edge devices, including core hardening techniques and secure software supply chain practices.
  • Hands-on familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) and system integration lab (SIL) workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to set technical vision, drive cross-functional execution, and influence at the executive level.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Currently possesses and is able to maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
DESIRED SKILLS
  • Prior experience leading software for radar, EW, RF sensing, or other signal processing-intensive systems.
  • Familiarity with FPGA development workflows and tools such as Quartus and Vivado.
  • Experience with bootloaders (U-Boot) and secure boot processes.
  • Knowledge of network protocols and security on embedded systems.
  • Experience deploying embedded systems in air-gapped or intermittently connected environments.
  • Experience working with U.S. DoD customers, programs of record, and associated security and compliance frameworks.
