Overview

California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Sociology. The appointment is in the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences. The department offers General Sociology and Criminology, and is developing a CSWE-accredited BSW program.

The position is for an Assistant Professor of Social Work within the Department of Sociology. The teaching, research, and practice focus should include micro-level social work with antiracist and anti-oppressive perspectives welcomed as additional foci. The candidate is expected to contribute to teaching, advising, scholarly activity, and service to the department, university, and community.

Position description

The department is seeking a tenure-track faculty member to teach social work courses, with responsibility for teaching four courses per semester. Junior faculty may receive one course release per semester for the first two years. The hire will play a key role in developing the Sociology Department’s BSW degree and the overall growth of the social work program. Candidates should demonstrate sensitivity to issues of diversity, including race, ethnicity, gender, class, age, religion, disability, and sexuality.

Minimum requirements
  • Ph.D. in Social Work, Sociology, or related social sciences field from an accredited university (degree must be completed by the start of the appointment).
  • Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited university.
  • University teaching experience as instructor of record and/or teaching assistant.
  • Three references’ names and contact information.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications
  • Evidence of ability to teach courses across the Department’s curriculum.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence through student evaluations and pedagogical innovation.
  • Evidence of an active scholarly agenda that provides opportunities for student research.
  • Evidence of ability to serve as an academic advisor and research mentor to a diverse undergraduate student body.
  • Evidence of curriculum and/or program development experience.
  • 2 years post-MS W practice experience.
