Job description

The position is for a 1-2 year paid fellowship working under the mentorship of Dr. Stephanie Polites Dr. Stephanie Polites in her pediatric surgical oncology research program. The application is open to research candidates, including those currently in training or have recently completed surgical or graduate training. The expectation at the end of the fellowship is that the fellow will be well prepared to become a leader in decentralized clinical trials and Healthcare AI Computer Vision/ML, either in the academic or surgical technology setting.

The ideal candidate must have expertise in fundamental biostatistical methods, evidence synthesis approaches, data structures and algorithms, Python programming language (including Tensorflow/PyTroch), Linux shell scripting, and machine learning (particularly deep learning). Expertise in Google Cloud Services (GCP) is a plus. The candidate must also be able to assist with clinical trial activities, manuscript writing, and grant writing.  

A Research Fellow position in Life Sciences (LS) will require knowledge of either clinical-based research or laboratory-based research often obtained from a postdoctoral program.
A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Upon background check and CCATS Executive Committee approval, Research Fellow may have patient/research subject contact directly relating to and incidental to the original research program. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic.

Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program. Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere.
 The candidate must have a track-record of publications/scientific writing and have strong proficiency in all four skills of English language, particularly experience in writing scientific manuscripts. It is anticipated that in addition to an independent research projects candidate will assist in developing the strategies specific to discovery research and deploying AI approaches for surgical care.
