Love's College Intern Program

The Love's college internship program is frequently referred to as the best in Oklahoma City. This rapidly growing program provides opportunities for students in multiple areas of the business to receive employee level experience, not just busy work. Students gain valuable knowledge that they can't get in a classroom; they are guided through proper etiquette of a professional corporate setting. BASIC PURPOSE: The Indirect Tax Intern will support the Indirect Tax team with compliance, research, reconciliations, and special projects. This role provides hands-on experience with sales and use tax, fuel excise tax, occupancy tax, tax technology, and tax compliance processes. The intern will work closely with tax professionals to develop an understanding of state and local taxation while assisting with day-to-day department activities.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the preparation and review of sales and use, fuel excise, occupancy, and other indirect tax returns.
  • Support the reconciliation of tax workpapers and supporting documentation.
  • Research tax rates, taxability rules, and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Assist with gathering documentation for audits, tax notices, and refund claims.
  • Help monitor changes in state and local tax laws and communicate findings to the tax team.
  • Review tax data for accuracy and identify discrepancies or unusual trends.
  • Support tax software maintenance, testing, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with data analysis, reporting, and ad hoc tax projects.
  • Collaborate with Accounting, Operations, IT, and other departments to obtain tax-related information.
  • Organize and maintain tax records and compliance documentation.
  • Participate in department meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education:
    • High School degree or equivalent required
    • Currently enrolled in four-year university program, a sophomore level or above (pursing a Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Accounting or Finance)
  • Experience:
    • Past internship experience a plus but not required

SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Skills:

      Hard Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft office and have completed Accounting I and II coursework

      Soft Skills: Keen attention to detail, strong oral and verbal communication skills, organization skills, and team player

    Typical Physical Demands:

     Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.

     Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.

     Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.

     Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
