Social model recovery is an approach to addiction treatment that emphasizes peer support, community involvement, and social connections as key components of the recovery process. Unlike medical or clinical models, social model recovery focuses on creating supportive environments where individuals help each other achieve and maintain sobriety. This approach often takes place in group settings such as recovery homes or support groups, and values shared experiences and mutual aid as essential for lasting recovery.

How does a Social Model Recovery specialist typically collaborate with other professionals in a treatment setting?

A Social Model Recovery specialist often works closely with a multidisciplinary team that may include counselors, peer support workers, medical staff, and case managers. Collaboration is essential to ensure clients receive comprehensive support, addressing both their social and recovery needs. Specialists frequently participate in team meetings, share client progress, and coordinate referrals to community resources. This teamwork fosters a holistic approach to recovery, improving outcomes and building a supportive environment for clients.
