SOCIAL MEDIA SPECIALIST

Job Overview

A member of the Story Team reporting to the Chief Marketing Communications Officer, the Social Media Specialist tells the story of Wheaton College through social media channels: strategizing, creating content (social media posts, photos, and videos), posting, monitoring content, analyzing effectiveness, paid social advertising, social listening, and actively engaging on behalf of the College. This position periodically requires non-traditional hours depending on social media activity or events and subjects that require photography. This is a full-time position and pays $50,000-$52,000 annually.

Duties

  • Capture, edit and post photos and videos for social media
  • Oversee the institutional Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter channels
  • Keep up with on-campus activity and trends in social media and higher education
  • Fulfill social media content requests from marketing specialists
  • Create and manage Meta ad campaigns for marketing specialists 
  • Regularly monitor Wheaton College social media channels for trends, concerns, or comments requiring response
  • Co-Manage student workers with Visual Media Specialist
  • Monitor and report on social media during media crises (in partnership with Chief Marketing Communications Officer)
  • Measure analytics of social media efforts and provide reports regularly for senior leadership
  • Plan content calendar and coverage for main campus events
  • Provide social media training for other social media managers across campus department

Professional Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience managing social media in a professional setting
  • Strong social media photography and videography skills
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing content for social media, identifying social media trends, and measuring effectiveness of digital initiatives
  • Quickly adaptable to new technologies and software platforms
  • Experience using Photoshop, Lightroom, and Premiere Pro
  • Experience using Canon R6 cameras and Canon lenses
