What does a social media content moderator do?

As a social media content moderator, your job is to monitor each post or upload on a social media platform and decide whether or not it requires a response. In this role, you may rotate through each channel to check new uploads, engage with the community, investigate issues, provide customer support, or respond to inquiries. Social media content moderators usually focus on user-submitted content, rather than being responsible for verifying anything that other employees post or upload to social media accounts. Content moderators often help decide what rules to apply to content and announce changes or their activities as necessary.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a social media content moderator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Social Media Content Moderator, you need strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and a thorough understanding of community guidelines or platform policies, often supported by relevant experience or training. Familiarity with content management systems, moderation tools, and sometimes AI-powered filtering platforms is typically required. Excellent communication skills, emotional resilience, and cultural awareness are standout soft skills in this role. These skills and qualities are essential to ensure safe, respectful online communities and swift, fair handling of sensitive or violating content.

What are some common challenges faced by social media content moderators, and how can they be managed?

Social Media Content Moderators often encounter challenging or disturbing content, which can be emotionally taxing over time. To help manage these challenges, employers typically provide mental health support, regular debriefing sessions, and clear escalation procedures for complex cases. Moderators are encouraged to take regular breaks and utilize wellness resources provided by the company. Collaboration with a supportive team and ongoing training also play crucial roles in handling the demands of the role effectively.

Job description

Can you spot a platform shift before it shows up in the analytics? Are you just as comfortable filming on a phone as you are owning a content calendar from idea to publish? Do you know exactly why one video outperforms another - and how to build on it?

If so, we want someone like you to join our award-winning Marketing team, which includes content writers, graphic designers, motion graphics artists, a dedicated video production team, two in-office studios and a continually growing pool of resources to help you get the job done.

This position is perfect for a creative who wants to hone their skills and build a career, all while making a genuine impact on people's lives.

WHAT THE DAY LOOKS LIKE

You'll own day-to-day social media video production across our Farrin, JOVE case management software, and Spanish-language channels - from ideation and scripting through filming, editing, and publishing. You'll manage the weekly content calendar, curate standout user-generated content from employees, and produce testimonials and market-specific content.

You'll also help the team stay ahead of the curve - researching best practices and adapting our strategy as platforms and algorithms shift, so we're never just chasing trends.

  • Own scheduling, filming, and the majority of postproduction/editing for assigned social channels, with the flexibility to travel to wherever content is ready to shoot.
  • Manage our content board and posting calendar, maintaining a consistent 2x/day posting cadence.
  • Partner with our team of interns on script quality - grammar, tone, and accuracy - and serve as a liaison for script coordination with our content writers.
  • Review and curate employee-submitted UGC and manage testimonial content.
  • Research social media best practices and bring fresh strategy as algorithms and platforms shift.
  • Collaborate closely with the Social Media team on content ideation and weekly planning.

All equipment provided.

WE OFFER

  • Robust training & professional growth opportunities
  • Based in Durham, NC, with regular travel to our various North Carolina and Greenville, SC offices. Hybrid work may be considered once the employee has successfully completed onboarding and established proficiency in the role.
  • Top-of-the-line hardware, Adobe Suite, and the tools/subscriptions you need to do the job well
  • Competitive salary & benefits including comprehensive health insurance, parental leave, 401(k) with match, and more

WHO WE ARE

We're a nationally recognized plaintiffs' firm, recently voted a Best Place to Work. Our President was named one of the state's most influential business leaders, and has been recognized for advancing diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.

Besides looking for high achievers, we're also looking for good people. People with character, strong values, and who are good teammates. Our employees genuinely care for our clients and for each other.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 2-5 years of experience in social media content production, video editing, or a related field
  • Comfortable filming (phone-first) and confident owning postproduction from rough cut to final export
  • A genuine track record in social media - you know the language, the trends, and how to up-level a strategy that's already working
  • Strong organizational skills - you can own a content calendar and make sure nothing falls through the cracks
  • A sharp eye for script quality and storytelling
  • Nice-to-have: bilingual (Spanish)

EXCITED? IF SO, PLEASE REPLY WITH

  • A cover letter
  • Your resume
  • A portfolio or demo reel of 3-4 recent examples - ideally including short-form social content you've filmed and edited start to finish
