Job description

This position is located in the Office of Inspector General, Office of Audit - Recycling, Cleanup, and Pollution Prevention Directorate. The Office of Inspector General is an independent office within EPA that helps the agency protect the environment more efficiently & cost-effective. We consist of auditors, program analysts, investigators, & others with extensive expertise. Although a part of EPA, to ensure our independence, Congress provides us with our funding separate from the agency.Qualifications:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR AUDITORS:
You must have either A or B:
A. Degree: auditing; or degrees in auditing, economics, public administration, public policy, public health, environmental studies, environmental policy, political science, or related areas.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:

  1. A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; or
  2. Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours.

You may qualify for the GS-14 grade level, if you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the federal sector, or the equivalent in the private sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position your specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  1. Planning, organizing and conducting complex audits and evaluations of major programs;
  2. Providing technical direction and project management oversight to team members;
  3. Gathering and evaluating financial or programmatic data and presenting and justifying findings;
  4. Preparing reports obtaining recommendations to improve internal controls and/or improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations to senior management officials.

Evidence of the above specialized experience must be supported by detailed documentation of duties performed in positions held. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
