Montefiore is actively investing in its data & analytics driven solutions as a new system-level priority, and we are seeking data experts who are excited to create a tangible impact with the healthcare system. We are seeking an experienced Snowflake Database Administrator (DBA) with strong expertise in Snowflake to manage, optimize, and support our enterprise data platforms. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring high availability, performance, security, and scalability of the Snowflake and AWS based SQL Server data platforms, with a strong focus on Snowflake advanced administration. This role will be responsible for administrating Montefiore’s AI-ready data Lakehouse in Snowflake that houses complex data solutions supporting Montefiore’s business functions. This role is also critical to scaling our data and insights capabilities, empowering teams with actionable insights, and supporting our mission to improve Patient healthcare.

Responsibilities

Snowflake Platform Administration

  • Administer and manage Snowflake enterprise environments (multi-account, multi-region).
  • Configure and manage virtual warehouses, resource monitors, roles, users, and access controls.
  • Perform environment provisioning, cloning, replication, and lifecycle management.
  • Monitor upgrades, feature enablement, and account-level configurations.

Operational Excellence & Reliability
  • Ensure 24/7 operational readiness and platform stability.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability for performance, storage, and compute usage.
  • Establish operational runbooks, SOPs, and incident response processes.
  • Partner with Montefiore AWS cloud foundations team and data engineering teams to ensure platform SLAs and reliability targets are met.
  • Support root cause analysis and incident resolution for platform-related issues.
  • Define RTO/RPO objectives and ensure compliance with enterprise resiliency standards.
  • Conduct periodic failover testing and recovery drills.

Security, Performance Optimization & Cost Management

  • Monitor and tune query performance, warehouse sizing, clustering, and data organization.
  • Optimize storage strategies including micro-partitioning and pruning.
  • Drive cost optimization through warehouse right-sizing, auto-suspend/resume strategies, and usage analytics.
  • Provide usage and performance reports as needed.
  • Implement and manage role-based access control (RBAC) and fine-grained access policies.
  • Support audit, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with security teams to maintain enterprise data protection standards.
  • Stay current with Snowflake releases and emerging capabilities.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance platform reliability, security, and performance.

Helix Snowflake Lakehouse Data Integration & Ecosystem Support

  • Support data ingestion pipelines across disparate internal and external data sources primarily Epic Cogito stack.
  • Collaborate with the Helix Data Engineering team to ensure optimal data loading and transformation patterns.
  • Support external tables and integration with AWS cloud storage.
  • Support enablement and operationalization of Snowflake Cortex AI capabilities.
  • Ensure data readiness, governance, and security for AI-driven use cases.
  • Optimize compute resources to support AI workloads.
  • Partner with AI/ML teams to maintain a high-performance platform for model development and inference.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in database administration or data platform operations.
  • 4+ years of hands-on Snowflake administration experience in enterprise environments.
  • Proven experience managing production-grade, highly available data platforms.
  • Experience designing and implementing DR and business continuity strategies.
  • Solid experience administering Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL, query optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with security, compliance, and data governance best practices.
  • Experience with AWS cloud platform is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.
  • Snowflake Advanced Administration Certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in health systems database administration.
  • Experience in Epic Cogito stack administration.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code and DevOps practices.
