Job description

Casella Construction, headquartered in Pittsford, Vermont, is seeking a skilled, hands-on, and driven Civil Construction Foreman to join our Construction Team. While based in Pittsford, Casella Construction supports and delivers projects across the state of Vermont and New Hampshire. In this role, you'll lead crews and manage operations on projects throughout these regions, ensuring every job is completed safely, on time, and to the highest standards of quality. 

As a Civil Construction Foreman, you'll partner with the Superintendent to plan daily operations, lead and motivate crews, manage equipment and materials, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget. This role demands a proactive team player with a strong commitment to quality and safety.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and direct daily operations on construction sites
  • Supervise crews, subcontractors, and equipment operators to ensure safe and efficient work
  • Assist with daily and weekly planning of work activities
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, and material need to meet project timelines and budgets
  • Enforce OSHA safety standards and company safety programs
  • Conduct daily job hazard analysis and maintain safety logs
  • Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and blueprints
  • Perform accurate layout using survey benchmarks and offsets
  • Oversee excavation, backfill, and installation of underground utilities
  • Inspect work for compliance with plans, codes, and specifications
  • Maintain daily paperwork, logs, and reports
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders
  • Operate heavy equipment when necessary and ensure proper maintenance
  • Mentor and train crew members to improve efficiency and safety awareness
  • Perform snow removal duties during winter months (where applicable)
  • Complete daily paperwork and communicate effectively with all Casella Construction personnel
  • Training requirements, both in person and online, as needed or required

Winter Maintenance Responsibilities:

  • Requires the ability to plow snow during the winter months across various locations in the state of Vermont and New Hampshire
  • Must be able to operate snow removal equipment such as snowplows, salt spreaders, and snow blowers
  • Must be proficient in handling both light and heavy-duty vehicles equipped for snow removal, ensuring safe and clear passage on roads and pathways
  • Must be able to work in cold weather conditions and perform physical labor as needed

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction and 2 years as a foreman
  • Thorough knowledge or planning, layout and execution of excavation, backfill and underground piping/utilities (Ductile iron pipe, PVC pipe, HDPE pipe, reinforced concrete pipe, precast structures)
  • Competency in working with deep excavations requiring the use of trench boxes and other support systems
  • Experience in mass excavation, demolition, site work and utility line work
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
  • Knowledge of grading, layout, and survey benchmarks
  • Competency in heavy equipment operation
  • Familiarity with construction materials and methods for site and utility work
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 safety certification
  • Strong leadership and crew management abilities
  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to enforce safety standards and maintain compliance with regulations
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license; CDL-A or CDL-B preferred

Physical & Availability Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Willingness to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and winter snow removal duties
