Job description

General Description:
The public schools of Brookline, a dynamic, diverse and exciting school community, is seeking an experienced pediatric nurse to join our team of nurses as a Nurse in our K-12 ESY program.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Provide direct and appropriate nursing care to students; assessment, treatment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management and referral as indicated.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate student health records, including current immunizations as mandated by state regulations. Timely documentation of daily health encounters into Electronic Health Record.
  • Promote a healthy school environment, including ensuring immunization compliance.
  • Implement comprehensive Individual Health Care Plans for students with health care concerns.
  • Administer daily and PRN (as needed) medications and nursing care procedures prescribed by the student's health care provider and in accordance with Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
  • Collaboration with interdisciplinary team as indicated
  • Collaborate with school staff regarding safety plans for handicapped or special needs students.
  • Employ cultural competency in delivering effective care in this diverse community.
  • Initiate emergency procedures for students and staff as needed.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding individual student health issue in a timely manner
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by Coordinator of School Health
  • Review health records of newly enrolling students for the upcoming academic year and input into SNAP electronic health record system
Abilities Required:
  • Ability to provide direct nursing care
  • Ability to administer first aid and CPR
  • Ability to respond to an emergency including carrying emergency bag, climbing stairs, and pushing student in a wheelchair.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to use technology including electronic health records
Requirements Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Current MA Registered Nurse License;
  • Current CPR certification;
  • MA DESE School Nurse License;

Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years' experience as a nurse, preferably in pediatrics, emergency or public health
