Job description

General Purpose: Responsible for preparing food items consistently and adhering to all quality and recipe standards, while maintaining the cleanliness and safety of snack bar area.
Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Maintains complete, up-to-date knowledge of all snack bar menu items and their ingredients
  • Memorizes and utilizes serving portion sizes and basic meal prep procedures used in the snack bar
  • Maintains a proper, neat, clean and safe snack bar line
  • Ensures that the snack bar, all food prep areas, and all food, beverage and dry storage areas meet restaurant sanitation standards
  • Sets up and breaks down work station at the start and end of each shift
  • Completes daily opening and closing duties and cleaning according to established side work
  • Maintains fully stocked snack bar line throughout shift according to the current meal period
  • Inspects and cleans food preparation areas, such as equipment, work surfaces, and serving areas to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices
  • Ensures food is stored and cooked at correct temperature by regulating temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, roasters and other equipment
  • Ensures freshness of food and ingredients by checking for quality, keeping track of old and new items, and rotating stock
  • Monitors food quality and presentation
  • Weighs, measures, and mixes ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment, using various kitchen utensils and equipment
  • Prepares and cooks all menu items as directed promptly and correctly; turns or stirs foods to ensure even cooking
  • Follows recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications as set by the Executive Chef
  • Ensures proper plate presentation and garnish set-up for all dishes
  • Prepares dishes for guests with food allergies or other special requests
  • Operates cash register and accurately charges Member accounts; collects credit card payments from non-Member guests
  • Maintains clean and tidy snack bar eating area for Members and guests; clears trash, wipes down tables, refills napkins, condiments etc.
  • Ensures self-service area is well-stocked and tidy throughout the day; refills plastic cutlery, paper napkins, lids, straws, condiments, etc. as needed
  • Assist with special facility events including, but not limited to: holiday brunches, wine dinners, Board and Committee events, Northrop Grumman NCAA tournament, etc.
  • Attend trainings and meetings as required/requested
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Skills:
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus
  • High level of professionalism and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend food tickets, memos, correspondence, and special instructions
  • Basic math skills to calculate food ingredient measurements and meal portions
  • Comfortable working with a team in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Problem solving, reasoning, and "thinking out of the box"; ability to apply common sense understanding to better serve our internal and external guests' needs
  • Ability to handle guest complaints and resolve them to satisfactory results
  • Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and kitchen and banquet equipment used in the storage, care, preparation, cooking, dispensing, and serving of food in large quantities
  • Basic knowledge of food and ingredients
  • Ability to remain attentive, friendly, helpful and courteous to managers and fellow employees
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow all Club policies, systems, controls and procedures
  • Ability to maintain personal grooming in compliance with appearance standards
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, days, weekends, and holidays
  • Interest in developing culinary skills

Experience & Education:
  • Minimum two years' cooking experience; country club experience preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Basic culinary skills and background
  • Basic knowledge of kitchen operations including food storage and food safety requirements
  • Serv-Safe Food Handler certified
  • RBS certification

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, at least eight hours
  • Ability to walk, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, crouch, bend, stretch, twist, and reach
  • Ability to push, pull, carry, and lift at least 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Ability to move about freely in a two-story kitchen facility
  • Ability to withstand continuous repetitive motions
  • Primarily works indoors; occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions during special events
  • May be exposed to loud noise
  • Works with kitchen equipment containing moving mechanical parts
  • May come into contact with fumes, open flames, hot and cold surfaces, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, sharp knives and other objects
