Job description

Position Title: Shop Hand
Reporting to: Service Foreman/Manager
Department: Service
Central Power Systems & Services is a privately held company with deep roots going back to 1954.
Our Mission Statement is forging long-lasting partnerships by providing first-class customer support. We live that statement every single day. We are looking for a Shop Hand to help support that mission.
JOB SUMMARY
The Shop Hand supports technicians and keeps the shop clean and organized as directed by the Service Foreman.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Shop Maintenance: Sweeping floors, cleaning workstations, and ensuring the workspace is free of hazards.
  • Material Handling: Loading, unloading, and safely moving heavy equipment, supplies, or parts.
  • Inventory Management: Organizing tools, tracking supplies, and restocking items.
  • Equipment Support: Assisting technicians by cleaning parts, fetching specific hand or power tools, and preparing work areas.
  • Basic Repairs: Performing routine maintenance on facility equipment or assisting with minor mechanical troubleshooting under supervision
  • Other responsibilities as designated by and at the discretion of management

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED required. A technical school certificate in related field such as Automotive/Diesel Technology, or Welding/Fabrication is a plus
  • Some experience in an Automotive or Diesel shop environment preferred
  • Valid license and clean driving record
  • A good working knowledge of equipment operations and mechanical functions
  • Familiarity with basic hand/power tools
  • Basic mechanical skills
  • Good verbal and written communications skills
  • Commitment to maintaining an orderly and safe working environment

WORK CONDITIONS
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
This position regularly requires walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing stairs. It also often requires pushing, pulling, twisting, lifting 50+ lbs. and working in a variety of weather conditions and noise levels.
